U18 Lacrosse Team Win Bowl at Surrey County Cup

Published on 04/10/17

The U18s have had an excellent start to the season, performing well at their first Lacrosse Surrey County Cup in Caterham on 30 September.

They faced tough opposition in their initial pool matches against Putney, Guildford High School (GHS), St Catherine’s and Caterham. The girls built up momentum after each match, beating both GHS 3rd team and St Catherine’s 4th team, giving their strongest performance against Caterham 3rd team which ended 6-0 to Claremont. However, the final pool match against St Catherine’s 2nd team proved the most challenging and despite strong defence throughout, poor communication led to a 6-0 defeat.

After 5 hard fought matches, the girls were delighted to qualify for the Bowl final against GHS 3rd team; a team they had experienced playing and beaten in their pool match. Claremont were one player down in the first few minutes after being called up for shooting space which gave GHS the opportunity to score, however with great saves and good communication Claremont won the match and the Bowl!

Overall, this was a great team effort with plenty of potential on display. A fantastic result for their first tournament and one which will set the group in very good stead for the rest of the season… and nationals! Well done girls.

“The girls thoroughly deserved this win and should feel confident about the rest of the season. They have been working so hard during our conditioning and training sessions at school and during the tournament their fitness definitely paid off, keep up the hard work girls!” Miss Harfitt
