Chinese Cookery

On Friday 1 December Year 10 and 11 GCSE Food and Nutrition pupils were treated to a visit from the Healthy Chinese Cuisine Ambassadors from the Ming-Ai (London) Institute.

To start with, Nelson and Kelly talked to pupils about the heritage of well-known Chinese dishes, the culture of the country and how important food is to various celebrations. Pupils were then taught how to de-bone chicken thighs and prepare a “wok-clock” before cooking hoisin chicken with crunchy vegetables. The visitors tasted each dish made by the pupils and chose a winner from each group. Lexie S in Year 11 and Saimie J in Year 10 each won a Chinese cookery book for their flavour packed food. We have all been inspired to ditch the takeaways and make more fresh recipes from home.
