Prep School Celebrate World Book Day in Style
Published on 09/03/18
The Prep School enjoyed their World Book Day celebrations on Friday 9 March, postponed by a week due to the snow. The day began with the Prose Recitation final, held in the Great Room of the Mansion. The colourful array of World Book Day costumes added a certain flair to this event as the finalists waited in eager anticipation to perform their chosen piece of prose. From classic authors like Enid Blyton, Dick King Smith and Roald Dahl to more contemporary books by Holly Webb and Kate Hindley, the Prep School were in for a real treat as they listened to the confident and dynamic performances by all eleven finalists. After a difficult deliberation, the panel of judges awarded the following prizes:
Junior Prize winner: Fred W who read from “The Enchanted Wood” by Enid Blyton
Senior Prize winner: Leah J who read from “The Worst Witch” by Jill Murphy
Outstanding Performance: Edward H who read “Animalcom” by David Baddiel
As well as the Prose final, lots of other exciting World Book Day activities went on throughout the day; a spelling bee competition, 500-word writing challenge, quizzes, book sharing and much, much more. It was a day that all the children will remember fondly and a wonderful way to celebrate the richness of reading.
