Translation Bee Competition

Published on 11/06/18

On Wednesday 6 June, five Claremont Fan Court pupils, Ben W, Frode A, Rishi B, Olivia S. and Gregorio I, travelled to the University of Westminster to represent the School in the Regional Final of the National Translation Competition. The pupils had been successful in the first two rounds of the competition, organised by Mrs Cahillane as a House competition, with the whole of Year 8 and Year 9 taking part initially. The group had therefore already beaten stiff competition to get to the South of England final.

The competition was very challenging, with pupils having to interpret and translate as many English sentences as possible which were called out to them into French, German or Spanish. Pupils were given just one minute per translation across two rounds. Every pupil represented the School brilliantly, with Rishi B receiving a medal and an invitation to the National Final at the University of Cambridge later this month. Well done to all the pupils who took part.
