Gifted, Talented & Interested Creative Writing Workshop
Published on 04/12/18
Twenty Year 9 and 10 pupils took part in a creative writing workshop on Monday 3 December led by author and Claremont parent, Malcolm Duffy. Mr Duffy, whose first novel ‘Me Mam. Me Dad. Me’ has recently been nominated for the Carnegie Award 2019, spent the afternoon teaching a range of creative writing techniques to our pupils. Top tips included making long lists of ideas before beginning to write, approaching familiar subjects from an unusual perspective and making sure the opening of a story is dramatic or unexpected. During the second part of the workshop, pupils were encouraged to adopt some of Mr Duffy’s techniques and attempt writing short pieces of their own. This was a most successful afternoon and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed learning from the experience of a respected, published writer.
