On Wednesday 7 June the Year 1 children were surprised to see a cookery bus pulled up outside the Pre-Prep. The children were introduced to Cerina who had carefully planned delicious healthy treats for the children to prepare. Everything was made from scratch and the children were involved in every process. They made a wide variety of different things including pancakes topped with fruit and yoghurt, homemade bread sticks with guacamole and a mackerel dip as well as Singapore noodles packed with rainbow vegetables.
Throughout the sessions the children were encouraged to try different fruits, vegetables and tastes that they hadn’t experienced before. Cerina encouraged a positive attitude towards trying new things by reminding the children that ‘that’s not my favourite taste yet’ is a much better way to judge things. The sessions finished with the children testing their sense of smells as we learnt that this strongly influences our taste buds. The children left with a bank full of recipes that they could try to replicate at home.
