U18 National Tennis Championships

Published on 29/03/17

It was wonderful to see some of the most impressive tennis at Claremont for many years on 29 March vs Kingston College’s team of four Uppers and 1 Lower vs our team of one Upper, One Lower, one Y11 and two Y10.

Singles were impressive with James winning 1-6, 6-2, 10-6. Lukas had an excellent win 6-4, 6-3 against a player he recently lost to. Elliott did brilliantly 0-6 (oops), 6-2, 11-9 with an excellent come back. Charlie had the hardest match losing 1-6, 2-6 and Will as our fifth man and uncounted singles won well 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles was another matter as this was Kingston’s forte and they played an energetic and attacking style to beat both our pairs 4-6, 2-6 and 0-6, 0-6.

The resulting championship set shootout with James and Elliott was really tough, especially for Elliott playing much bigger opposition. Claremont played well but lost 5-10 leaving a final score of 6-7 rubbers to Kingston in this knock out competition. Even without James next year, the Claremont Fan Court team will continue to grow and we anticipate more success next year.
