Ice House Pond

Published on 21/03/18

The Ice House Pond next to the Portsmouth Road entrance was part of the historic Claremont estate and was orginally used during the winter to collect ice to be stored in the nearby Ice House. During the Spring Term, the pond was dredged after the wet area had become choked with reeds.

Our grounds team have been working to clear the pond and unclog the ditch which runs alongside Portsmouth Road to encourage drainage into the area. Over time the pond will be returned to something like its original state. Not only will it improve habitats for local wildlife but it will also provide interesting teaching opportunities for our pupils to enjoy.
