Nursery to sixth form
At Claremont, we are proud to be an inclusive mainstream school offering a nurturing, individualised approach to supporting pupils with a wide range of needs from early years through to sixth form.
Our Individual Needs departments work across the whole school to ensure that pupils are supported academically, socially and emotionally, enabling them to thrive within a stimulating, aspirational learning environment.
In keeping with the school’s ethos, our provision is grounded in high-quality teaching, strong relationships and a commitment to knowing every child as an individual.
The wellbeing support at the school is just so amazing. We’ve got an in-house department and counsellors on site.
Student, year 13
Junior School - Early Years to Year 2 (Ages 2.5–7)
In Fan Court, our early years to year 2 settings, support focuses on:
- Early identification of need
- Developing communication, language and social interaction
- Supporting emotional regulation and readiness to learn
- Building positive routines and a love of learning
Support is embedded within play‑based and structured learning, with close communication between staff and families.
Junior School - Year 3 to Year 6 (Ages 7–11)
In Stable Court, as pupils progress, the focus shifts to:
- Developing literacy, numeracy and learning behaviours
- Fostering independence and confidence
- Targeted interventions to support emerging difficulties
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and peer relationships
Interventions are carefully targeted and reviewed to ensure pupils continue to access the full breadth of school life.
Senior School and Sixth Form (Ages 11–18)
In the senior years, our provision supports pupils to:
- Access an ambitious and broad curriculum
- Develop effective study, organisation and exam skills
- Understand their own learning profile and advocate for themselves
- Prepare successfully for GCSEs, A levels and life beyond school
Support becomes increasingly personalised, with an emphasis on independence and preparation for further education or employment.
Inclusion at Claremont is embedded in everyday practice.
- High-quality teaching and learning within the classroom is the first and most important level of support
- Pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and self‑awareness
- Support is responsive, flexible and developmentally appropriate
- Provision evolves as pupils move through the school, reflecting changing needs and increasing independence
Our IN teams work closely with teaching staff, pastoral colleagues, families and external professionals to ensure pupils experience consistency and continuity throughout their school journey.

- Access to or coordination of external specialist support, including: Speech and language therapy (SaLT) and Occupational therapy (OT)

Our Individual Needs provision is delivered by a highly trained, experienced and multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively across the school.
Our team includes:
- Director of IN – junior and senior school providing strategic oversight and whole‑school leadership
- SEND specialists and learning support teachers
- Teaching assistants
- ELSA and ELKAN trained staff
- Pastoral and counselling professionals

Senior school care centre
Our centre brings together our
- Individual Needs support, teaching and assessment
- School nurses

Facilities include:
- 2 fully equipped medical treatment rooms
- A dedicated counselling room
- 4 small classrooms for individual and small-group tuition and support
- Quiet outdoor spaces, including an area for pupils to grow flowers and vegetables, as well as yoga, stone painting and mindfulness

Drop-in clubs and clinics
We offer a range of informal support opportunities including:
- Drop-in club: a welcoming space for students to seek help with learning challenges.
- Touch typing club: developing essential typing skills for academic success.
- Revision and study skills sessions: equipping students with effective strategies for independent learning.
- Nurture group: providing emotional and social support in a small group setting.
- Friday fun: a relaxed, social time to build friendships and confidence.
- Gardening club, outdoor arts/crafts and games tables: promoting wellbeing through outdoor activities and peer interaction.
