A Level Textile Design students meet American Fashion Designer, Anna Sui, at her retrospective exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum
On Friday 22 September, our A Level Textile Design students visited the Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion exhibition at the V&A Museum. The exhibition displayed the work of influential Spanish couturier, Cristóbal Balenciaga. There were over 100 pieces crafted by ‘the master’ of couture, his protégées and contemporary fashion designers working in the same innovative tradition. The students were able to take a range of inspirational photographs to include in their sketch books.
The students then visited the Fashion and Textile Museum to see The World of Anna Sui exhibition. They attended a highlight tour presented by the curator of the exhibition, who explained the design background of the classic American fashion designer, Anna Sui. The exhibition featured a wide range of eclectic looks from the designer’s archive and presented a variety of styles from Surfers and School Girls to Hippies, Mods and Punks. This is the first time the designer has been the focus of a retrospective exhibition in the UK. The students were extremely lucky as they were able to meet and talk to the designer herself as she was visiting the exhibition. This provided a very exciting end to an inspirational day.
