Orienteering at Alice Holt

Published on 16/11/17

The Claremont Fan Court School orienteering squad travelled to Alice Holt in Hampshire for the third Junior League event of the season. Alice Holt is a forest frequented by visitors who come for its nature trails and the ‘Go Ape’ high ropes course, but few venture into its deep interior where the dense vegetation and complex contours can make for quite challenging navigation, especially with ground made slippery by overnight rain.

Joe B on the orange course had his best run of the season, coming 16th in 61:58. On the light green course, Robert G was 27th in 75:22, coming in just a few seconds after Nathan J, who was 25th in 74:40. Slightly ahead of both of them, in 22nd place, was Alex O in 72:10. These are quite promising results considering almost all the people above them were adults not competing in the Junior League. Unfortunately, the teams who were competing in the league fielded much greater numbers on the orange and yellow courses, and as a consequence the squad has slipped back to fifth place in the league.
