My Time in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

For the last 6 months Year 6 pupil, Ava P, has been performing the role of Lily Potter in the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This has been a fantastic experience for Ava who will end her run with the show in January. Here she shares her experiences performing to large audiences in the bright lights of a West End production…
In July this year, I was lucky enough to earn the part of Lily Potter in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, performing in the West End in London at the Palace Theatre.
My first performance was obviously exciting, yet a nerve-wracking experience, which I shall never forget! As I stepped onto the stage for the first time, with my mum and dad proudly watching in the audience, the feeling of being in “the moment” was unbelievable! The theatre holds 1,400 people and is sold-out every single night! That is a lot of people!
Of all the experiences that I have had in the last few months, one stands out in particular: meeting JK Rowling! After watching the performance, she came to meet the cast backstage in person to congratulate us – it was amazing!
I have made some super friends from the cast, particularly Ella, who I met at the original audition; we have been great friends ever since. All the other young Harry’s and Lily’s have also become special friends.
For my role, I have to wear some fantastic outfits, including the Hogwarts uniform, casual clothes and a pretty dress. On one occasion as I was performing, I was wearing some magical wings, suddenly they broke mid-performance! I was startled but managed to carry on, after all, ‘the show must go on!’
