Year 8 Celebrate National Poetry Day
Published on 08/10/18
Visiting poet and rapper, Breis, has a way of engaging pupils’ interest and it was not long before Year 8 were creating and performing their own lyrics on the concept of “change.” Through using a variety of techniques such as metaphor, simile and rhythm pupils not only created their own rapping poems but they also enjoyed presenting them. Before this, Breis had performed some of his own work and then took pupils through the history of rap reminding us that the ingredients for this genre of music are very similar to those needed for poetry. The workshops were great fun and inspired a number of outstanding pieces of work which will be displayed for all to enjoy!
