Year 8 STEM Club

The topic for the Year 8 STEM club this half term has been ‘Food Science’ which has taken place in the food technology rooms so we have been able to produce lots of edible treats. Pupils have looked at the chemistry behind sherbet and popping candy and what goes into producing a clear and crunchy boiled sweet. Pupils then produced their own crunchy honeycomb and learnt about the production process of golden syrup. The next next recipe was curds and whey where pupils made their own ricotta cheese followed by fruity caviar which demonstrated how spherification works. Finally, pupils learnt about tempering chocolate in order to make shiny chocolate Easter eggs.
