Surrey Schools' Baking Challenge

Published on 02/04/19

Over 80 children participated in this year’s heats of the Surrey Schools’ Baking Challenge with 15 children reaching the grand final held at Claremont Fan Court School on Monday 1 April.

Pupils had two hours to bake and decorate their wonderful spring-themed cakes for guest judges Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Shweta Kapadia and her consort Mr Ramesh Kapadia, and Sarah-Lou Lewis, owner of Hugs and Kisses Celebration Cakes in Thames Ditton. The cakes were judged on their overall creativity, originality, appearance and taste. The standard was extraordinarily high and it was very difficult for the judges to select an U12 and U14 winner. After much deliberation, congratulations go to:

  • Under 12 Winner - Annabel T, Claremont Fan Court School (Rose and Raspberry Victoria Sponge)
  • Under 14 Winner – Daniel R, Rokeby School (Easter Mess)

Huge thanks to Esher Church School, St Andrew’s Primary School, Surbiton Prep School and Rokeby School for participating in this fantastic event, with thanks also to Mrs Wells and Mrs Nendick who assisted the bakers throughout the morning.
