Orienteering at Rewell Wood

Published on 17/10/19

Rewell Wood near Arundel in Sussex was the venue for last Saturday’s orienteering event, where two members of the Claremont Fan Court School orienteering squad travelled to try and find the best routes through the dense undergrowth and steep scarp slopes of the South Downs.

Nathan J chose to run the 4.9 km Green course, and despite having to duck and dive constantly while running through thick bracken and gorse, ancient yew and coppiced hornbeam, navigated the very challenging course securely to finish 17th in a time of 86:16.  Meanwhile, sensibly opting for the safer option of the Orange course, Thomas F produced an excellent clean run and finished an impressive 3rd in 37:21. These were extremely good performances in a major regional event competing with experienced adults. Well done to both!
