Published on 07/10/19
On Friday 4 October, Year 9 travelled to Ypres in Belgium to visit the some of important First World War sites to complement the history department curriculum. Starting at Essex Farm cemetery before moving onto the Menin Gate, the group visited the In Flanders Field museum, showing a genuine interest in the exhibits. A tour of the German cemetery at Langemarck followed before the pupils explored the largest Commonwealth Graves Commission in the world. The trip culminated in a visit to Sanctuary Wood, where the group walked in and around the trenches. Overall the trip was a tremendous success and the pupils are to be commended for their conduct.
Year 9 have used this trip to help with their research projects on trench warfare, some of which have been truly outstanding.
