Orienteering at Witley Common

Published on 14/11/19

On Saturday 9 November, three Claremont Fan Court orienteering club members travelled to Witley Common to take part in their second event of the season in the Southern Navigators Junior League. While not being a particularly difficult area technically, with no steep slopes or unduly dense undergrowth, Witley Common nevertheless challenged competitors with its irregular path network and uneven terrain.

Thomas F reaffirmed his navigational skill with an excellent performance on the orange course, coming in 3rd in 48:03 despite overshooting a couple of controls. Meanwhile, new club member Jack J teamed up with Ellis B to tackle the yellow course. Despite a couple of scenic detours, they did well to complete the course in 37:00, only to find themselves unfortunately disqualified for failing to register a punch at the 6th control. As is the nature of orienteering, every mistake is a learning experience, and all three team members have something to reflect and improve on as they prepare for their next event.
