Orienteering at Old Windmill Hill

Published on 19/11/19

The sounds of the Pirbright firing range made for a slightly surreal frisson to the Southern Navigators SE Orienteering League event at Old Windmill Hill near Frimley on Sunday 17 November. Fortunately the four members of the Claremont Fan Court School Orienteering Club took the distraction in their stride and made the most of the beautiful November sunshine to practise their orienteering skills.

Ellis B and Jack J again teamed up to run the Yellow course, and proceeded steadily with few navigational errors to finish 9th in 40:35, a significant improvement on last week. With 230m of climb and some very cleverly concealed control sites, the 5.2 km Green course was physically and mentally tough, and in a large, crowded and competitive field Nathan J did well to finish 46th in 83:43. Last but certainly not least, in possibly his best result this season, Thomas F flew round the Orange course to finish 5th in 42:10, providing a welcome confidence booster and a solid platform for moving up to Light Green soon.

Well done to all four boys for their excellent efforts.
