U9 football festival winners

Published on 29/11/19

Congratulations to our U9 football team who won the Greenfield football festival in fantastic form on Thursday 28 November. The competition involved 16 teams from local schools and the boys showed outstanding teamwork and a positive attitude throughout.

In the first round, Claremont won two matches (2-1 and 1-0) and drew the third, leaving them top of their group and ready to face the three other teams that topped their groups. Hector F drove the team forward showing great tenacity, scoring a wonder goal to seal a crucial win from behind. James A was heroic in goal, putting his body on the line. The boys grew in confidence and their performances were outstanding.

In the first match, Jake W scored with an incredible strike in a 2-0 victory over Longacre.  The second game was the hardest fought game of the day, against Greenfield who had more possession and put the boys under real pressure. However, Greenfield were on the back foot and could not break the Claremont defence down.

The boys went into their final game knowing a victory would seal the tournament.  Claremont dominated the ball and piled on the pressure.  Joshua M finished well to put the boys 1-0 up, shortly followed by the goal of the day; a frankly ridiculous strike from Jake W who, from the side line, smashed the ball across the goal into the far top corner. Joshua scored a third shortly after, sealing a 3-0 win to lift the trophy. Edward C, Eden M and Oscar I held the defence together, only conceding one goal all afternoon.

Well done boys - fantastic work!
