1st XV finish rugby season on a high

Published on 09/12/19

Congratulations to our 1st XV who finished the Senior School rugby season on a high following a victory against local rivals ACS Cobham on Friday 6 December.

The team were well prepared for the 'Year 13 farewell fixture' under the floodlights of Cobham RFC, with a number of boys making a strong claim for a starting position after making fantastic progress throughout the season. It was clear from the off that the game would be a physical encounter for both sides and Panos V crashed over the line early in the first half, backed up by another swift Claremont try. However, ACS were a larger pack and came back within 2 points of Claremont. Late in the second half, a brace of quick tries from vice-captain Max A and another from Panos V opened the gap up. Once again, ACS fought back, only for Finn B to score a well worked backs try in the final minutes of the match to seal a 34-20 victory to Claremont.

Our 1st XV, led this year by head boy Ben I, have enjoyed another strong season. The squad have won 7 of their 9 fixtures overall and it has been great to see continual growth in the number of boys representing the school in both A and B squads.

Congratulations go to all the Year 13s who hang up their rugby boots this term – their efforts have been outstanding this season, raising the bar for next year’s squad.
