Wellbeing Wednesday

Wellbeing Wednesday on 3 February came at just the right time to give Senior School pupils a break from their remote lessons. As a school we are very proud of our online teaching and learning provision, but we are also acutely aware of the increased screen time it creates. 

During Wellbeing Wednesday, pupils were encouraged to continue their learning away from their laptops through activities such as reading, cooking, artwork or music. Despite wet weather, many pupils still managed to get outside for some important exercise and fresh air. Plenty of Year 9 pupils enjoyed muddy dog walks, bike rides or chose to stay at home and bake brownies or take time to prepare a delicious meal for their families. 

We all need to take care of our mental and physical health whilst locked down at home and we have seen some wonderful examples of how pupils embraced Wellbeing Wednesday. Rachel R in Year 7, for example, shared this incredible record of how she spent the day:

  • Made blueberry pancakes for breakfast 
  • Did some stretching 
  • Painted mural in the cellar 
  • Finished book
  • Baked lemon squares
  • Had lunch with my mum
  • Did a duathlon 
  • Ran 3km and cycled 8km
  • Had a relaxing bath
  • Spoke with grandparents 
  • Made toad in the hole for dinner

What a tremendous day it was and we hope pupils, like Rachel, were able to feel the benefits of reducing their screen time.
