After graduating with a Law degree from Warwick University, James commenced a short service commission in the Army.  He went on to spend most of his career in the financial services sector, working across a broad array of areas, culminating in a variety of general management roles in international and regional banks.  The Middle East was a core focus of his career for 30 years and his last commercial role was as Chief Operating Officer (Middle East and North Africa) for Jardine Lloyd Thompson.  James first joined Claremont in a contract role in summer 2022 before becoming Bursar at Silcoates School in Wakefield.  He returned to Claremont as Deputy Bursar in April 2024 and was appointed Director of Operations in July 2025.

James’s three children attended a variety of UK independent schools and went on to study at UK, Canada and US universities and this provides a broad perspective to his current role.  His spare time is spent with his family, their three dogs and time permitting, he enjoys music, cinema, international politics, cycling, hill walking and skiing.
