The archery team changes every year, but we tend to have students from most year groups, Amongst our stand outs for the end of last year and the start of this are Rosie (yr9) Comet ( yr11) Finn ( yr 12) and Jay (yr13 ). All have represented the school in in competition and have placed in 1st and 2nd places for their categories. This year we are attending the Atkins Soup shoot in a couple of weeks’ time and hoping to do some of the indoor winter competitions, hopefully with some new members to the team, Ella (yr11) Sophie (yr11) LJ (yr9) Max (yr13) and some of the year 7’s from the lunch time club. Comet (pictured) has been shooting on the school team for about 3 years shooting at away competitions and doing well in some of them, coming 2nd on more than one occasion, one of the targets, to get a 6 gold end award at 20 yards.
The first team recorded their first win of the season at the weekend and what a fantastic one it was. After going down in the first quarter, the team picked themselves up, with scores tied going into the second half. A second half of fast breaks was still locked level with 40seconds to go. Xandi L got the ball from the draw, who passed it to Emily I who managed to draw a shooting space call. A clinical free positional, handling a lot of pressure and sticks to the head and body, Emily scored to get the game winner!! A superb game and a full team effort.
Lost to St Swithun’s 11- 4. A tough day for the U15’Bs. Unfortunately, early goals were conceded and the team found themselves fighting to get it back into the match. The second half was a much tighter affair, Claremont much improved, despite the final 4-11 result. Players of the match – Olivia B and Nel.
Lost to St Swithun’s 9-10. A terrific match saw Claremont lose out in a nailbiter. On the back foot for much of the first half, Claremont responded brilliantly to almost seize the day in the second, Summer and Thea J led the resistance, the one-point margin evidence of a fiercely contested game. Player of the match – Summer.
The U14B’s began a closely fought game with strong offense and dominant possession, unfortunately just missing out on some key goal opportunities. As the game went on the St Swithun’s attack secured a lead with the Claremont defence being drawn out. However, in the second half Claremont showed some grit in fighting back, Rosie H leading the defence and creating opportunities further up the pitch & Faris H providing some great saves which meant although the final score went to the opposition Claremont comfortably won the second half in a very even match.
Last weekend the U13A lacrosse team had a nail-biting match again St Swithun’s School. The girls worked tirelessly throughout the match with the score neck in neck. At the end of the 3rd quarter they were tied 4-4 with, however, with an excellent run from the draw, Alice B scored, alongside Georgia D and Ellie W, finishing the game 7-5 to Claremont.
The U13B’s brought lots of energy to their 2nd match, communicating well as a team against a challenging opposition. After conceding some early shots the team remained positive and goals from both Georgia B and Emma F brought us back into the game. Ella T gained a very well-deserved player of the match following some fantastic interceptions and a resilient performance in defence.
The U14 A, B, and C netball teams enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of netball against Howard of Effingham, showing impressive skills and teamwork across all three matches. Each team brought their A-game, with the A team demonstrating excellent strategy and determination, resulting in a strong performance. The B and C teams also played with enthusiasm, demonstrating their growth and commitment to the sport. Overall, it was a wonderful outing for the U14 squads, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. Well done to all the players—looking forward to more great games ahead!
The U12A netball team triumphed over Warden Park in their first-round of Sports Magazine. The girls showcased exceptional teamwork and skill, in a fantastic start to the season. From the outset, our defense was strong, with key interceptions, while our goal shooters demonstrated impressive accuracy. The mid-court players connected well, creating numerous scoring opportunities. The positive attitude on the court was contagious, with teammates celebrating each other’s successes and supporting one another throughout. This match highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie that will drive the team forward.
Won 63-7. A one-sided affair, saw Claremont U15A romp to victory over an inexperienced Isleworth & Syon team. Playing on the school 1st XV pitch, Claremont revelled in the open space, hat tricks from a potent centre combination in Josh C and Josh H, just too hot to handle by a game but limited opposition.
Sam C scored from a neatly executed front peel at the lineout, Fred W’s industry was rewarded by a great winger’s finish, with Raahil L showing everyone a clean pair of heels from a line out to race home from range. Chester was faultless from the tee, nine conversions adding to the convincing scoreline. Tougher challenges lie ahead, but this was a commanding performance by a team now finding their stride.
Lost 0-24. A tough encounter on a rain-soaked day, saw the U15B squad battle hard but ultimately fall to a four try loss. The game was switched from Dunottar to Claremont, waterlogged pitches in Reigate a portent of the pluvial pounding awaiting the teams. Claremont had a large squad and rotated the team regularly to give all players game time, but found they were unable to retain possession for long, turned over at the ruck consistently. Noah W was outstanding, with Rafferty B a willing foil. Four tries to none tells the tale, but not the commitment levels in a resilient effort.
Playing Isleworth is always a tricky affair. They often have some very talented athletes and are always a very physical team. Saturday was not different and at a glance their team had the usual big boys hungry to run with the ball.
Claremont started the game with an absolute belief that they were going to take not one single backwards step in this potentially physical encounter. And from the kick off they fulfilled this in every way. At every breakdown they arrived in numbers and dominated possession. Giles then brushed aside the defence and went over for a very convincing and confidence building score. From here on in, the first half became a procession with all the team’s strongest runners powering through and scoring tries. Lucas R, Oscar I, Eden M and Charlie H all burst over the line and then as the half drew to a close the forwards got in on the action. James S and Ed C all ran in tries from over half way. But the performance was capped in the final play of the game. The team had been cut down to 13 with boys who would not always have the chance to run the game taking the lead. Initially they struggled and conceded two Isleworth tries, but after making some hard tackles they found their belief and ran in an excellent team try to finish off the game.
This is a team that has great potential. They have exceptional runners and their skill level is high. It is now down to whether they can learn tactics to go along with their skills. A brilliant team performance, and one the team should be very proud of.
Won 56-12. Another comprehensive win for the unbeaten U14Bs, who ran roughshod over Caterham U14Cs. Despite a small mix up pregame that left them with minimal warm up, the boys stormed out the gates & were quickly up by multiple tries. The game finished 56 -12 to Claremont, with try scoring machines Oliver W and Elliot G grabbing themselves a double. 3 from 3 for the mighty U14Bs, onto next week!
Won 45-40. It appeared as if our fixture against Isleworth and Syon would be another dominant display as Claremont ran in five unanswered tries in the first half. The second half, however, was a very different game of rugby. Our opposition came out with a renewed energy and Claremont were on the backfoot and leaking tries in quick succession. Roshi was heroic in defence, making tackles all over the pitch to match the several tries he scored in the first half. Soon the game was tied up and it appeared Claremont would throw away their significant lead. It took a wonder try from Freddie H, who from his tryline skipped through the entire opposing team with the ball in one hand, to wake Claremont up again. After a try in response from Syon, Tom GS had the final word and touched down to seal the win for Claremont.
