The U13s placed 1st overall at the ISGA National 4 Piece Championships. The gymnasts have been training incredibly hard for this and it’s fantastic that all their work has paid off! Congratulations to Thea who placed 3rd and Sophie who placed 6th individually.
On Saturday, the Prep School qualified for the ‘Bowl’ at the U10 St George’s Tournament. The girls played excellently and finished in 2nd place.
Claremont rugby Sevens squads played on four consecutive days at the St James’s Festival last week. Chill winds greeted the teams on most of the tournament days, as the squads learned to combat the unique fatigue, aching limbs and excitement of this fast and frantic game. Roared on by watching parents and Heathrow bound aircraft alike, all squads came away with successes and thoroughly enjoyed their participation in the event.
The Year 9s led us off on the opening day, their won 2 – lost 2 tally, matched the following day by the energetic Year 7s. The Year 10s started at a canter, their opening 8-0 victory somewhat dissipated by the games that followed. Pride of place goes to our Year 8 boys, who won their opening four matches and were only pipped by a single try in the last round of the round-robin. Through an anomaly in the schedule, the constraints of time meant some teams got an additional game, meaning that in theory they could take advantage and pull clear on league points. In recognition of this, St James suggested that all three leading teams take silverware home, much to the excitement of this admirable group.
All the boys played with great commitment, determination and no little skill. Whilst we still have lessons to learn about controlling a game and crucially ball retention, this was a great week, much enjoyed by both players, parents and coach alike. Thank you boys, we can look ahead with some confidence to our next tournament.
This Saturday saw our 17 and 18 year old students play their last home lacrosse match before they graduate. It was an emotional and competitive set of matches against St George’s School, Harpenden for our 1st lacrosse team. Congratulations to the 1st team who finished their home season on a high by winning overall.
Congratulations to Jinny P who won a silver medal at the inaugural British national karate championships in the U15 category competing against girls 2 years her senior.
Jinny was also awarded a belated Best Female 2022 at Toyakwai, and most recently won 2 Golds both in the U15 categories at Meopham competing against girls 2 years older than her.
This Saturday, Year 10 enjoyed learning how to umpire and coach lacrosse. This helped the girls strengthen their understanding of the game further and a fun time was had by all.
