This year, pupils in the senior school are taking part in UK Parliament Week, which runs from 24 to 30 November 2025. Throughout the week, pupils are engaging in activities designed to deepen their understanding of how UK Parliament works and why it plays such an important role in civic life.
To support this, tutor groups are using a dedicated presentation and set of activities that introduce the key functions of Parliament, the role of MPs and how laws are made. Pupils also have access to a quiz that encourages them to test their knowledge and explore these topics further. Families are invited to take part in a separate quiz at home, with prizes available. The form must be completed by students using their school account and email address.
We were delighted to see our local MP, Monica Harding, acknowledge the work taking place in our school through one of her Instagram posts. Her message highlighted the importance of encouraging young people to learn about democratic processes and to feel confident engaging with them.
Activities taking place this week include a Parliament quiz sent by Mrs Heard via email, which students are encouraged to complete with their families, along with a set of tutor time resources designed to help pupils learn more about UK Parliament.
UK Parliament Week gives our students a meaningful chance to understand how our democracy works and why their voices count. The activities in school help them see Parliament as something real and relevant, and it has been great to see their curiosity and thoughtful discussion.

UK Parliament Week is an annual national initiative that aims to raise awareness of what Parliament is, what it does and how everyone can get involved. It provides an opportunity to learn something new or revisit knowledge about how the country is governed. Participants receive resources that support learning, encourage action and help young people understand how they can make a positive impact on the issues that matter to them.
Last year, more than 2.4 million people took part across every nation and region of the UK, as well as in countries around the world.
