Students hop onto the Maths Kangaroo challenge

Each year Claremont students from multiple year groups are entered into the national maths challenge run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).  This is a competition involving around 650,000 students from around 4,500 schools. It tests students and encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

This year, in addition to achieving a number of gold, silver and bronze awards, 8 of our students qualified for the next round, strangely called the ‘Grey and Pink Kangaroo.’  Only a couple of thousand students are invited to take part in the additional ‘Kangaroo’ rounds which include some devilishly difficult questions. Congratulations go Joshua K, Jack P, Zachary S, Ellis A, Ben F, Ruby H and Annabel T for their participation in this extended challenge round.

Jasper S (pictured above), Year 11, who qualified for the ‘pink Kangaroo’ achieved such a high score, that he was rewarded with a ‘Certificate of Merit’. This is only given to the top 25% of students in this extended challenge.  Congratulations goes to all students who were involved with the challenge.
