William Brierly, Head, shares how a co-educational through-school that combines continuity and community with seamless transitions leads to outstanding academic outcomes and exceptional school experiences.
Choosing a through-school education offers stability and the confidence that comes from being truly known within a school environment. However, the real benefits come when transitions between stages are managed with purposeful, proactive plans that consider the pupils’ ambitions and strengths.
At Claremont, we provide a carefully curated journey from pre-nursery to sixth form, where every step is an exciting opportunity for pupils to build confidence and develop skills, and for teachers to deepen their understanding of each individual child.
A community that grows together
Claremont is widely recognised for its warm, close-knit, one-school community. Educating boys and girls together since 1978, strong foundations are laid from the very first steps into learning adventures in our pre-nursery, fostering curiosity and a love of learning.
Sixteen years later, pupils leave with excellent academic outcomes, friendships and enduring memories which last a lifetime.
Building confidence in character through the junior years
Pre-nursery and nursery children enjoy a gentle introduction to life at Claremont through purposeful play, structured Early Years activities and specialist teaching, building confidence ahead of formal schooling.
Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6) introduces pupils to new subjects, spaces and responsibilities, with classroom visits, shared breaks, assemblies and peer support.
Year 6, the peak of junior school, sees independence develop through taster lessons, scholarship masterclasses, leadership roles, overseas residential trips and sports fixtures, preparing pupils confidently for senior school.
Strong in understanding: senior school and beyond
Progression into the senior school at Claremont involves continuous assessment and deep knowledge of each pupil, not a single exam hurdle.
Vertical tutor groups and a consistent form tutor from Year 7 to 11 provide continuity. Our three-year GCSE programme beginning in Year 9 enables deeper understanding of each pupil’s learning styles and personalised support through GCSE and into sixth form.
Strong staff-pupil relationships and student futures experts guide subject choices and future pathways, whether at university, in apprenticeships or abroad.
The success of this approach is reflected in Claremont’s record A Level results achieved in 2025, resulting in over 90 percent of students securing their first-choice university.
I joined at nursery so i've been here 15 years. The relationships you build here, those are special. It’s been a big part of my life and I think im all the better person for it.
James, year 13 student
A journey that is limitless in potential
What sets Claremont apart is the care, consistency and attention invested at each stage. As children grow, the breadth of opportunity and level of experience available grows with them.
Pupils focus on discovery, are celebrated in what they achieve, and are confident that they are supported, understood and encouraged every step of the way.
