We understand that choosing the right setting for your child can be a daunting process, especially at the start of their school journey. Our friendly and knowledgeable admissions team are on hand to guide you every step of the way.
As a gently selective school with children at the heart of our approach, we aim to make the admissions process reassuring and personal. We warmly invite you to visit, see our classrooms in action, and give us the chance to get to know your child.
Children already in our nursery automatically move into our reception giving them continuity of learning supported by our exceptional team.
Families are warmly encouraged to join a nursery workshop where children take part in practical, play-based activities with our nursery staff. This is an ideal opportunity to view our outstanding facilities, expansive outdoor grounds, see how your child interacts with the environment and to discuss how we can best support your child. A tour of the school will also be available.
If you cannot attend a workshop we will be more than happy to provide you with a personal tour of the school.
Applications are completed online and include:
As a gently selective school, we invite all of our prospective children for an admissions visit. Pre-nursery and nursery children will be invited to a short ‘stay and play session’ to ensure that they will be happy and settled in our environment.
Following assessment, we’ll discuss results and next steps with you. Families accepting a place will complete paperwork and pay a deposit to confirm. Children are then invited to a settling-in afternoon in the summer term before joining in September.

Choosing a senior school is one of the most important decisions a family will make. We encourage prospective families to visit us, meet our staff and pupils, and experience Claremont for themselves. Our admissions team is always happy to answer questions and support you throughout the application process, ensuring you have all the information you need to make the right choice for your child.
Year 7 entry
Year 7 is our main point of entry into the Senior School, with around 70 pupils joining us from other schools each year. We aim to welcome an equal number of boys and girls, creating a balanced and inclusive community where every child can thrive.
Claremont is a gently selective school, seeking pupils who will embrace the opportunities on offer and contribute positively to school life. We recommend that applicants entering Year 7 are securely meeting, and ideally exceeding, national expectations in English and mathematics, ensuring they are well placed to flourish within the pace and breadth of our senior school curriculum.
Mrs Kirsty Willcocks is your point of contact for admissions into Year 7 and is available to answer your initial enquiries at admissions@claremont.surrey.sch.uk or on 01372 473 794.
Our process for admissions into Year 7 at Claremont is as follows:
All prospective families are warmly invited to visit the school in the spring or summer term of Year 5 or the autumn term of Year 6.
To apply for Year 7, 2027 we require a completed application form supported by a recent school report and a £150 non-refundable registration fee to be submitted by Tuesday 3 November 2026. Please click below to fill out the application form.
If you have indicated that you wish to apply for a scholarship, you will need to fill in a separate scholarship application form. This will be available in your application portal following registration. For further details on the scholarships available, please visit the scholarships page.
Requests for reasonable adjustments such as extra time or laptop must also be submitted by Tuesday 3 November 2026. Any reasonable adjustments requested will need to be supported by appropriate evidence at the time of application as follows:
Our entrance assessments will be held on Saturday 28 November 2026.
Applicants are invited to attend an assessment day at Claremont, where they will complete a series of age-appropriate assessments designed to evaluate their academic potential.
The assessments include:
English and verbal reasoning (a combined paper set by GL Assessment)
Mathematics and non-verbal reasoning (a combined paper set by GL Assessment)
Creative writing (set by our own English department)
Full details, including timings and arrangements, will be shared with families after the application deadline of 3 November.
To help applicants feel familiar with the style of the assessments, we recommend exploring the free familiarisation materials and sample papers available from GL Assessment before the assessment day.
At Claremont, we are proud to be recognised as a gently selective school that values both academic potential and personal character.
As part of our admissions process, every applicant is invited to attend an individual interview, which will take place during the autumn term. The interview allows us to get to know each child beyond the assessment papers, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills, curiosity, confidence and ability to work collaboratively.
Following the admissions process, offers of places are typically made in late January. Families wishing to accept their child’s place will be asked to return their acceptance forms and deposit by early March. Full details, including key dates and next steps, will be shared alongside the offer.
Year 8, 9 & 10 entry
Although our main intake is in Year 7 and Year 12, vacancies do arise in Years 8–10, but availability cannot always be guaranteed.
We invite families to visit us on a working open morning, to get a feel for Claremont and offering the opportunity to speak to staff and pupils and ask any questions. Please email admissions@claremont.surrey.sch.uk to book a place at the next event.
For possible entry in September 2027, we warmly encourage families to submit applications by Friday 30 October in order to be considered for our occasional vacancy assessment day, taking place on Thursday 12 November 2026. Applicants will spend the day with us, taking part in lessons with year group buddies and enjoying co-curricular activities. All applicants will be interviewed by a senior member of staff during their visit and will sit their entrance exam in the afternoon.
Please note that we are not able to accept applications into Year 11 at any time.
If you would like to talk through the process or have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact Aline Norris in our admissions team, by email on admissions@claremont.surrey.sch.uk or by telephone on 01372 473 780.
We look forward to hearing from you.
