Welcome to our webpage, where we share some of the green-thumbed projects we are involved in at school and beyond. Our latest is The Pupils’ Patch on Esher High Street, kindly offered by the Esher Planters’ Club for us to plant and nurture.

Did you know, the children here at Claremont have 100 whole acres of historic parkland to enjoy, with room to grow and space to breath. And I’m lucky enough to be Head Groundsperson. Along with my green thumbed team, we care for and upkeep our school estate. Together, we maintain and nurture the beautiful surroundings that form both the backdrop and the living classroom for girls and boys; pupils aged from 2 in our Pre-Nursery, right through to 18 in sixth form. My team and I ensure the grounds remain a safe, inspiring, thriving and well-kept environment for all, that’s full of adventure, and sympathetic to our rich and royal heritage.

Claremont Fan Court School’s heritage audio trail visits 12 places around the grounds marked by plaques. Twelve special audio tracks have been recorded by our pupils, providing local history, commentary and information about our fascinating history.
As well as gardening club, we have plenty of the other exciting clubs that we enjoy outside of the classroom. Here’s our co-curricular programme – you’ll see there is something for everyone, of all ages and interests.

Claremont’s story began in 1709, when Sir John Vanbrugh built a small house at Chargate Farm. Five years later, Thomas Pelham-Holles bought the estate, renamed it Claremont, and asked Vanbrugh to enlarge the house. The Walled Garden, designed by Vanbrugh once covered six acres and was ahead of its time, producing exotic fruits such as peaches, figs, and melons, grown against warm red-brick walls and in heated glasshouses. It is one of Vanbrugh’s last remaining walled gardens in Britian. Later, Robert Clive commissioned Capability Brown and Henry Holland to build the Palladian mansion we see today. During the Second World War, the estate was used by Sir Sydney Camm and Hawker Aircraft, and now Claremont is a thriving co-educational school for pupils aged 2–18.
