Our school community recently came together to celebrate Charity Week, a wonderful opportunity for pupils and staff to support important causes while taking part in a range of enjoyable activities across the school. Throughout the week, several pupil-led events gave everyone the chance to contribute while celebrating the spirit of community and generosity that defines our school.
Monday 16 March
Charity Week began with an Animal and Easter Cake and Biscuit Sale during first break. Pupils kindly donated cakes and biscuits, with ingredients clearly listed, and the delicious treats were sold for £1 or £2.
Later that afternoon, a charity netball match was held on the Show Court in the junior school playground, featuring the 1st Netball team against the 1st Rugby team. Many spectators came along to support the teams, and many donations were collected!
Tuesday 17 March – Wednesday 18 March
A Book Swap Event was held in the Library at lunchtime. Pupils brought books to reception in advance and exchanged them during the event. For £1 or £2 per book, students were able to refresh their reading collections while supporting the week’s charitable causes.
Wednesday 18 March
At first break, pupils enjoyed a Krispy Kreme Donut sale. Donuts were sold for £1.50 each and proved extremely popular!
Thursday 19 March
One of the highlights of the week was the Claremont Carnival, held at lunchtime in the junior school playground. Pupils enjoyed a variety of stalls and activities, including hair braiding, nail painting, bookmark making, cookie decorating, guessing the sweets in a jar, and cornhole. Each activity cost £1 per event or stall and there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the event.
Friday 20 March
Charity Week concluded with a Decades-Themed Mufti Day, celebrating styles from the 1960s through to the 2000s. Pupils arrived in creative outfits representing their chosen decade and brought £1 to tutor time to take part.
Overall, Charity Week was a wonderful success, bringing the school community together to support important causes while enjoying a week filled with fun, creativity and generosity.
During Charity Week, funds were raised for three remarkable causes:
RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
The RSPCA is the UK’s largest animal welfare charity, founded in 1824. Each year, it rescues and rehomes thousands of animals, including pets, farm animals and wildlife. Donations support rescue operations, veterinary care and campaigns to prevent animal cruelty.
Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders)
Médecins Sans Frontières provides emergency medical care in some of the world’s most challenging and dangerous environments. Working across more than 70 countries, they respond to conflict zones, disease outbreaks and natural disasters. Donations help fund doctors, nurses and essential life-saving medical supplies.
Claygate Youth Hub
Claygate Youth Hub is a wonderful local charity that provides a safe and welcoming space for young people in our community. The hub offers mentoring, activities and vital support that help build confidence, friendships and important life skills.
This charity was supported in loving memory of Teddy Read.
Charity Week was a fantastic example of our school community coming together to make a positive difference. Thank you to all pupils, staff and families who supported the events and helped make the week such a success.
