U15A v Dunottar

The U15A roadshow moved into the West End, a curious low-scoring drama unfolding on a balmy afternoon. Dunottar batted first, struggling to a relatively meagre 96–4 from their allotted 20 overs. Will H was the most frugal of the bowlers with 1 for 8 from his four overs, with Ollie P’s 2 for 27 combining the wide and wonderful. On a tricky pitch that saw some irregular bounce, the visitors’ total looked underwhelming, despite 34 from their opener Maddigan, who would later blow the Claremont middle order away and swing the match towards Dunottar on his own.

Claremont were led towards victory by Will H, whose 30 set the foundation. However, with Maddigan returning extraordinary figures of 5 for 15, including a three-wicket over to dispatch the hosts’ central line-up, the modest target looked perilously distant. Peacock and Heslop nudged the scoreboard towards the mid-seventies, but once both departed, Claremont held a collective breath as Felix D was joined by Adam P as the last-wicket pair, with a further twenty runs required. Showing patience and awareness, the final batters edged and ran down the deficit, Adam P turning the fourth ball of the eighteenth over past fine leg for the four that brought the final curtain down on a fun, if nervous, performance.

U15 Girls

On a warm, sunny morning, the U15 girls took on LVS at home. Claremont batted first in an 8-pair, four-over pairs format. Captain Adaline got the scoreboard racing away with some fine boundaries, with further great batting from Sophie and Maddie. Setting a total of 315, LVS struggled to get runs due to the tight bowling from Claremont. Both sides had great fun in the sun and walked away happy.

U13A v Tiffin

A final-over thriller saw Tiffin School hold out to win by 8 runs on a bright, sunny morning down Hampton Way. The hosts reached 146–4 despite a slow start, with Claremont restricting progress to just 28 runs from the first seven overs. Tiffin accelerated hard, two batters in particular reaching and on one occasion clearing the boundary regularly, as Claremont fielding grew increasingly ragged and profligate.

The visitors lost both openers cheaply, but a sustained partnership from Charlie and Giles set a foundation. With wickets starting to tumble, the running by the Claremont batters was at best alarming, but somehow the target kept dwindling. Giles was the standout Claremont run chaser, his 40 mixing the ferocious with the frantic. With two overs to go, Claremont needed 24 runs. With one to go, the target had diminished to 18. A four from Harry B raised hopes of a heroic steal, but despite Giles’ heroics, Claremont fell just short. A really entertaining game for all to play in.

U13A Sisters in Sport v Channing

A comprehensive victory for the U13A Girls, in this Pairs eight-a-side softball tournament, sees Claremont through to a semi-final, opponent as yet unknown. Claremont batted first and lost just two wickets in amassing 59 runs, with Alice leading the way. Claremont’s opening bowlers, Alice and Mia, took two wickets apiece to knock the heart out of the Channing response, which never fully recovered. With Lexi vocal and controlled behind the stumps, the Claremont fielders held three good catches and backed each other well, restricting the visitors to an ultimately minus score, as the wickets taken toll kept the scoreboard stagnated. Claremont 59 for 2 beat Channing -1 for 6 to progress to the next round.

U13B/C

The CFC U13B/C played Esher High. The match unfortunately changed to a combined game of only 8 overs. Esher batted first and scored 238, and then Claremont made 231, only 7 short. Standout players were Mia H and Alice with the bat. Zoey W bowled incredibly well, taking 2 wickets in the one over she bowled.

U12A v LVS

In a thrilling encounter, Claremont U12A narrowly lost to LVS Ascot by just 1 run, with the game going down to the final ball of the match. Batting first, LVS posted a total of 84 runs from their 20 overs. Claremont bowled with discipline and energy, with Henry S leading the attack superbly to claim 3 wickets, keeping the run rate under control and putting pressure on the opposition.

In response, Claremont’s chase was steady but hard-fought. Jimmy W anchored the innings with a composed 22, keeping hopes alive even as wickets fell at regular intervals. As the tension mounted, the match came down to the very last ball with just 2 runs required to win. In a heart-stopping moment, LVS held their nerve, and Claremont finished agonisingly 1 run short of the target. It was a spirited performance full of effort, grit, and moments of brilliance — a tough result, but an exciting match!

U12B v Tiffin

As always, the U12B’s came with enthusiasm and hope. Losing the toss gave us a chance to bat first, and it all started so well. Particularly Caspar, who looked accomplished and struck the ball beautifully from the off. However, Tiffin’s bowlers were excellent and gave very little away. Wickets were lost consistently, and aside from Caspar, who scored a very competent 25, our total would have been very low. As it was, 62 seemed okay—difficult to defend but possible.

And then Tiffin batted. Their opener struck the ball down the ground with great power. However, with straight bowling and patience, a couple of wickets made things feel better, only for ever-stronger batters to emerge. Oscar T came on and bowled his left-arm leg spin accurately and deservedly got a breakthrough, but the power of the Tiffin players was too much, and they knocked the 62 off well inside the overs. This was a tough game for the boys, but they stuck to their task well and should be proud of their performance.

U12A Girls v Epsom College

An impressive performance by the u12 A’s. The bowling by all players was accurate and powerful, resulting in many wickets with special mention to Grace and Alyssa. The batters had excellent communication with some impressive striking. The fielders were effective and focused. Some impressive catches were made along with some great backing up.

U12B Girls v LVS

U12B Girls played against LVS Ascot away. Claremont scored 338 after some nice batting in pairs. They then managed to restrict the opposition to 301 with some great bowling.  Most promising batter was Naomi S and the standout bowler was Molly S.
