Claremont School

Esher, Class of 1969

Jill Brocklebank (Stringer)

Jill was a boarder at Claremont School between 1961 to 1969. She recounts meeting her friend Venetia and playing a game of cops and robbers whilst picking blackberries:

“I loved the time I spent at Claremont from 1961-69.

My very first memory was being introduced to Venetia (Chase) as our mothers left us on the front steps of the Junior School at The Close. The following weekend the Junior School boarders were given containers and sent off to pick blackberries on The Mound. This ended up being an excellent game of cops and robbers with our “Kangas” who were looking after us. The cook made the blackberries into delicious pies.”
