Matthew studied for a BA in English and American literature at UEA before undertaking his PGCE (in secondary English) at the same institution. He started his teaching career at Hampton School before taking up a number of senior roles, in a variety of schools across the 3-18 age range. Prior to joining Claremont, Matthew worked at Holme Grange School, Wokingham (3-16 co-ed day school), where he was whole school deputy head for seven years playing a key role in significant growth in pupil numbers and driving change and whole school initiatives.

Beyond his school leadership roles, Matthew has served as a governor and an ISI inspector, demonstrating his deep understanding of the educational landscape and commitment to quality assurance.

Matthew brings a well-rounded perspective to his role, balancing his professional life with a passion for reading, writing, and sports. Matthew and his wife, Felicia, live in Berkshire and have three children (Lily, Rose and Alfred), one cat and a dog. His dedication to lifelong learning and an active lifestyle resonates with the school’s holistic approach to education.
