Thank you for applying to the sixth form at Claremont. This page will be updated regularly with everything you’ll need to know as you go through the admissions process.
Please arrive strictly via the Claremont Fan Court Senior School car park at 4:45pm. This can be accessed from the A307, Portsmouth Road. Please use the following link to arrive at the correct location: Map
Please make your way to the sixth form centre to sign in. We will have sixth formers in the top car park to direct you.
We will begin testing promptly at 5.00pm. If you are running late, please let us know by calling the following number: 07538 234460.
Parents are welcome to return at 8pm for refreshments in the New Dining Hall with the senior leadership team.
The evening will finish at 8:30pm.
After signing in, you’ll take part in the CAT4 testing, followed by a short break and then an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The interview will last about 20 minutes and is a great chance for us to get to know you. If you’re applying for creative subjects like Textiles, DT, Art, or Photography, this is a particularly important part of your assessment.
Everyone will sit the CAT4 Grade G assessment, which looks at how you reason and think in different ways, such as:
The test has three sections, each lasting 40 minutes.
CAT4 is a timed assessment and additional time is not permitted for SEND or IN as this will affect the reliability of the results. CAT4 is not just about what and how it tests but how the questions are answered within a set timeframe. The timed element makes it diagnostically very powerful. Other accommodations can be made for students with SEND or IN, please contact the admissions department for further information on this.
Further information for parents and students regarding CAT4 tests is available from the GL assessment website, click here for further information. We strongly advise against any kind of practice ahead of a CAT4 test as this will alter the reliability of test scores. The point of CAT4 is that it is not a test of learnt knowledge but of potential and it needs to be as unaffected as possible by any external factors, such as practice. Think of it like an eye test; if you practice ahead of an eye test and memorise the card, your diagnosis may not be correct and valuable information may be missed.
If you have any medical conditions we should know about, or if you use an EpiPen or inhaler, please make sure you bring it with you (and that it’s clearly labelled with your name).
If you feel unwell on the day, please let us know as soon as possible by calling our emergency number: 07538 234460
(Please note: this number is only active on the interview assessment day)
Please email Aline Norris at: admissions@claremont.surrey.sch.uk if you have any queries in the meantime, I will be happy to help.
