The English department was delighted that the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford could accommodate the whole of Year 10 to watch this fantastic and gripping play. Directed by Stephen Daldry, the production consisted of a haunting set design, superb actor performances and even – pyrotechnics! Considering audience interpretations is an indispensable part of the GCSE literature exam, and this unforgettable and modern performance, with its clever use of costumes, setting and performances, encouraged pupils to generate their own interpretations after the viewing. It was a truly enriching afternoon, allowing Year 10s to have a captivating experiences of Priestley’s most famous social drama.
