Claremont pupils sing for the climate at COP26

We are the Voice is a children’s environmental choir which aims to raise awareness of a variety of environmental issues through songs written, rehearsed, recorded and performed by the children themselves in Surrey. Involved in this wonderful choir are three Claremont Fan Court School pupils, Siolfor-Rose S (Y8) Emilie H (Y7) and Lydia H (Y5).

Much to their excitement, the choir learned that it had been selected from over 4,000 applicants to perform at the highly anticipated COP26 UN Summit in Glasgow at the beginning of November and the experience proved to be truly unforgettable for all involved.

The choir sang for the climate, trees, rivers, oceans and seas; for the species who are becoming extinct and for their futures. Their performances certainly caused a stir as their voices were heard loud and clear throughout the main atrium of the Science Building at the heart of this momentous event. Amazingly, the president of COP26, Alok Sharma, came along to listen to the choir sing and even took the opportunity to talk with the children afterwards. Another notable attendee of the conference; Dragon’s Den entrepreneur, Deborah Meadon, watched as the children sang and was moved to tears by their performance.

It was a very special experience and the choir were delighted to have the opportunity to sing about the things which matter to them.
