Pupils progress into next round of national poetry competition

On Monday 6 February, the semi-finals of the national poetry competition, Poetry by Heart, took place in the Great Room. In November, every child in Year 7 recited a chosen poem to their English teachers and 24 pupils were selected to go through to the semi-finals. It was an extremely enjoyable evening and the pupils recited their poems with confidence and energy, bringing their performances to life.

An external adjudicator, Sian Rowland chose 3 winners to go through to the next round of the competition. These were Catherine W, Rosie H and Sasha W-L. Three pupils were also highly recommended – Aja D, Harry S and Viola J.  All of the pupils should be very proud of themselves as the standard was extremely high and they entertained us with their wonderful recitals.
