Jinny P achieved spectacular success, winning two bronze medals at this year’s European Championships. She placed 3rd in her specialist category and 3rd overall in the Open. Given that she came down with a cold the night before, this is an amazing achievement, not once complaining about her health. She also jumped up an age group, competing against 17-year-olds!

It was a wet, windy, grey morning as Claremont faced HABS — no sun cream needed, though the air was still nice and mild. Despite the dreary conditions, Claremont came out uncharacteristically fast out of the blocks, surging into a commanding 3–0 lead. Their early dominance was built on awesome, fast, accurate stickwork in the final third, and even the huddled fans began to wonder whether the score might reach 10–0.
However, the tide turned faster than the Bristol Channel. With dodgy scoreboard assistance confusing matters and keeping supporters on their toes, HABS clawed their way back. By half-time, the game was suddenly and dramatically level at 3–3. The second half was altogether different gravy. Although the Claremont girls left their half-time oranges untouched, they restarted with purpose, strength, and renewed focus. They quickly took the game away from HABS, dominating the half 4–1 to close out an 8–4 victory — a very comfortable win in the end.
There were some amazing individual performances, but it was the teamwork that truly shone. Frequent and effective rotation from the bench kept legs fresh. The defensive efforts were strong for most of the match, though a few moments of isolation caused the home side to wobble — lapses that will cost them against tougher opposition. To their credit, they ironed those issues out. Claremont chased down every lost cause, battled well in the draw, and worked hard around the cage at both ends. They may still need to develop slicker skills, especially learning how to draw penalties, but the intent and improvement were clear. Credit must go to HABS for their first-half fightback, which was helped largely by a loss of concentration from Claremont. But the fans could see that the half-time hair-dryer treatment from the coaches had worked — the response after the break was immediate.
One message echoed among the spectators: stand away from the scoreboard. Clock management matters; at the end of the first half it could easily have been 4–3, within Claremont’s grasp had they handled the final minutes more professionally. By the end, the girls looked exhausted, but the stickwork and accuracy on display are now clearly reaching new levels.
The U14A team had an extremely close game, ending in an 8–8 draw. After a slow start, the girls all switched on, playing a great game as a team. Having been down by one at half-time, the team worked incredibly hard to try and win the game. In the last minute, Zoey scored an amazing goal through the goalie’s legs. She earned her player of the match, and so did Jess, who showcased leadership in the defence unit and made some amazing slides. The whole team played a great game and worked together as a unit to give Haberdashers a fight.
The U14B game was a tough but even match, ending in a draw with a final score of 6–6. The team worked relentlessly to put up a fight against Haberdashers and, despite the rough rain and wind they had to endure, they worked well together as a team. Emma and Sylvie won players of the match for assertiveness and were both keen to put their all into the match. Millie stood out for her consistency; she was always offering a good pass in great space. Nancy also stood out for her leadership on the pitch; she made some great slides and was always on her player. Overall, while it was a tough game, the team worked well and played a great game full of resilience and unity.
From the start, it was clear that this was going to be a difficult game against Putney, with many amazing players on their team, but as a squad we knew that we could do it if we had communication and, most importantly, worked as a team — a key component in winning a lacrosse game. By utilising this, we managed to stay strong going into the second half with several goals, each one boosting our morale through the rainy and muddy weather, and as the game drew to a close we still fought hard to win the game 7–4. It was a fun experience, reminding us to work together as a team. An excellent performance from all.
All round this was an excellent performance and, in the end, Claremont secured a 10–2 victory. Both teams worked very hard in attack, defence, and midfield, with some excellent draws and accurate stickwork. Overall, there was strong teamwork throughout the match, as there were some crucial crashes that we executed and dedicated runs up the pitch with the ball.
On Wednesday, the 2nd team faced a strong SWPS side. We started off strong, but the other team proved stronger, leaving us down 14–3 at half-time. During the 4th quarter, we made an excellent comeback to lose by just two, with the final score being 14–12. Overall, it was a great match, with Megan and Xandi getting players of the match.
On Wednesday, the 3rd team faced SWPS in a challenging match, where they were able to score 10 goals to 3. In the first quarter, they were faced with some challenges due to sunlight, meaning that a few passes were turned over, but they quickly adapted to their surroundings and calculated the best route and tactic to goal. From an offence perspective, their ability to work around the D improved over the four periods, managing to co-ordinate their positioning to create the best opportunities for space. The number of goals rapidly increased after the first quarter, with similar improvements in screening off the opposition.
In mid-court and defence, the players managed to create a flowing dynamic where the ball was being turned over consistently. The use of the wings was key, as drawing the other team out and rapidly changing direction meant great opportunities and offers were made. Centre, played by Lola C., was quick to move down court, supporting the edge of the D along with Matilda S. Overall, a great match played by the 3s.
A good result for the U13As against some strong defence. The team adjusted their play and worked to move the ball effectively around the goal.
The U13B team had a challenging game against Howard on Monday, where we saw some different combinations out on the court. With some slick through-court play and some great turnovers, unfortunately the girls struggled to convert in this match, with minor errors giving away possession. The defence shone brightly, with turnovers through our defensive end and their goal circle. Well done to all involved!

Our team scored a 15–7 victory against Howard of Effingham. The team efforts were on point, but it was the build-up to the second-half performance that carried the momentum, even though it was very humid in the room. The first half was very good, setting the tone for the rest of the game. In the second half, we were quite tired but still tried our hardest. We made sure to play short-short-long instead of passing really far and got into more space. It was great teamwork and strategy! Our defenders were solid, getting interceptions so the ball went up the court, catching the opposition off guard with early contact.
Key Highlights:
A great game and team effort. Well done to everyone involved — and we can’t wait to play again!
On a blustery, damp day, a small squad travelled to Chiswick to play Latymer Upper. The game was littered with countless handling mistakes from Claremont, who never really got into the game despite looking more organised. As the home team grew in confidence, the Claremont backs became increasingly frustrated with the ball being lost too often at the breakdown. A couple more injuries left the side looking deflated. A late push saw the team come back into the game, with a great try from Seb W. in the corner, giving Claremont some much-needed points for their efforts. PoTM went to Tom A. for his work in the lineout and breakdown.

One more game this term, one last hurdle to a second unbeaten domestic season for this band of brothers. Claremont duly dispatched Ibstock Place 24–0 in a relatively one-sided affair, dominant in most aspects of the game despite spirited fight from the visitors, whose fly-half caught the eye. Tries from Lucas (2), Archie, and Ed were a reward for a solid team performance — perhaps lacking finesse but certainly not intent. Positional changes were explored, with the whole squad contributing on a blustery morning.
As ever, the parent support for this group is hugely appreciated, but no wonder — the team goes from strength to strength. Special mention must go to the ever-excellent Lucas, whether at centre or full back; hard-running Max; Archie for another searing burst to the try line; and above all, thunderous around the pitch, PoTM Ed C., a stand-out robust performance. Royal Alexander lie in wait in the final week of matches. Stay focused, boys — history awaits.
The expectation was that this would be a challenging fixture, and that’s exactly what it turned out to be. In the first half, Claremont played downhill, with the team initially compact, organised, and working very well. The week’s new tactics were implemented brilliantly, with pods running as first receivers and the right players in the lead. Charlie S., George B., George K., and Dylan P. all ran with purpose, and it looked like Claremont would overrun Ibstock in a one-sided game. The first try by Charlie was inevitable and well deserved.
Ibstock then produced a breakaway try from a handling error. This should have set alarm bells ringing, but all seemed good at this point. Normal service resumed, with Claremont dominating the forward exchanges, both loose and tight, and making strong progress up the field. By half-time, Claremont had produced three excellent team tries, but Ibstock had yet again scored a breakaway try from a mistake — 15–14 to Claremont.
The second half was a different story. Ibstock quickly got the upper hand, with Claremont almost immediately making a silly handling error, allowing Ibstock’s strong runners to score a try. More worryingly, Claremont’s attack was becoming ragged, relying on individual runs rather than solid team play. As a result, these runs often led to turnovers and scoring opportunities for Ibstock.
The team became steadily more desperate, and even though Arjun and Charlie were able to score a try each, mistakes and chaos at the breakdown allowed Ibstock to build a solid lead. The ball carriers for Claremont were exceptional, with Freddie, Dylan P., Freddie F., Oscar R., and Tom all making strong contributions. Dylan Pe. was outstanding in the backs, and despite playing several positions, was always able to get the team on the front foot.
Player of the game was Charlie S., who consistently took the ball forward and managed to score a hat trick of tries. Special mention also to the boys who have played only one or two games up until today: Ben E. and Seb S. Both made strong contributions in a very physical and demanding game, and should be proud of their performances.
The opening period saw us struggle to find our rhythm. Defensive structure was loose, and tackling lacked consistency, allowing IPS to capitalize and build an early lead. Despite this, the boys showed determination and kept working hard. After regrouping at half-time, the team came out with renewed energy and focus. Rucking was strong throughout the game, and in the second half, we really dominated the breakdown. Ball carrying into contact was effective, creating forward momentum and opportunities. The positive attitude and determination were evident, and the boys never gave up. Jeffrey scored a hard-earned try after tremendous work from the forwards, and Jimmy scored a great try, spotting a gap and making a fantastic run.
The U13Bs lost a spirited game away at Ibstock on Saturday. Ball control and attacking opportunities were relatively evenly split between the sides, but the difference came down to the strong running of the Ibstock players, who gained more yardage than the CFC team when in possession. Despite their best efforts, Claremont struggled to stop the opposition ball carriers with their first tackle.
This, combined with the tough conditions resulting in plenty of penalties for either side, made the game a scrappy one. Claremont didn’t give up and managed to score midway through the second half, with a well-deserved try from PoTM David A., giving CFC something to show for a gutsy performance despite the loss.
Our A Team played exceptionally well against Woldingham’s B Team, securing a dominant 12–0 victory. Well done to Sofia C., Anais P., Linea P., and Olivia B. for an outstanding performance.
Our B Team faced a strong Woldingham A side and truly played their hearts out. The match ended in a draw, taking them into a Championship tie-break. Unfortunately, we narrowly lost 13–12, but it was an incredible battle. Congratulations to Sophie W., Jessica L., Poppy M., and Yael M. for their determination and fantastic play. What amazing tennis from both teams. We are very proud of you all.
