Sports round-up
·13 February 2026
We are delighted to report on a full program of fixtures last weekend, as major sports enjoyed a temporary respite from the relentless precipitation. We open this week with an outstanding individual performance from Rosie H….
Indoor World Record Status WA 25 Trophy Tournament & The County of Surrey Indoor Championship
The Indoor World Record Status WA 25 Trophy Tournament, held alongside The County of Surrey Indoor Championship, took place on 18 January 2026 at the Guildford Spectrum. The venue was well prepared with a full layout of WA-standard targets and a busy shooting line featuring archers from across the region.
This competition marked Rosie’s first time ever shooting the WA25 round. Despite the new challenge, she performed with impressive focus and consistency. Bow Type: Barebow Category: U18 Women Final Score: 359 Her steady performance across all ends demonstrated excellent technique and mental control. Rosie’s performance resulted in two outstanding accomplishments:
Surrey U18 Barebow Woman Champion & New Surrey County Record – Barebow U18 Women (WA25)
Achieving a county record on her first attempt at the round highlights her remarkable dedication and growing skill. The 2026 Indoor World Record Status WA 25 Tournament and Surrey Indoor Championship was a highly successful event with excellent organisation and sportsmanship throughout. Rosie’s outstanding debut on the WA25 round, combined with her championship title and county record, marks a significant milestone in her archery journey.

This was an interesting game. The first comment I heard before the game, ‘they look big’, and indeed Wimbledon were. They were also confident. But this did not translate into the game. From the very first kick of the game, Claremont were sharper in their movements and in their passing. Almost straight away, two simple passes created to send James S through and his accurate low finish buried itself in the corner. The game then seemed to lack intensity as Claremont moved well, passed well and Wimbledon never really got going. A second goal came quickly from a speculative through ball missed on the bounce by the keeper. However Wimbledon managed to get one back before Claremont again created a simple scoring chance, ending the half 3-1 up. The half ended on a sour note and this the set the tone for the rest of the match.
The second half began with more of the same but eventually Claremont gave away a penalty allowing the Wimbledon to close the gap. However, from then on, it became one way traffic. The game broke up as Wimbledon lost structure and discipline and three more goals made the game safe. Wimbledon had players with undoubted talent, but team work, discipline, passing and no small amount of determination meant that a 5-2 win was very well deserved and the boys should be very pleased with this result.
U15B lost a very good game against a physical and strong Wimbledon side. The only goal came from a free kick in the corner which was beautifully delivered. Outstanding performances from the two POM Nathaniel R-T and Jamie C.
The game started with Claremont under immense pressure, with attack after attack edging towards our goal. However, we stayed organised, urgent, and determined, and Wimbledon College rarely had a clear test for the one and only David. As the first half went on, we began to string passes together and get on the front foot, led by Jimmy and his composed playmaking. In the final ten minutes of the half, Max delivered a lovely inswinging corner that deflected off three defenders and ended up in the bottom-right corner.
The last few minutes of the half were tense. We stayed calm and controlled until a delicate through ball put Wimbledon College one-on-one with David. The ball bounced towards goal, but Fergus produced a heroic John Stones-esque clearance off the line. We were still under pressure, and a low volley from the right took a deflection and rolled into the side netting. Despite that, we went into half-time believing the game was in our hands.
The second half felt like a fresh start. The boys were ready to step up. We were more dominant, more physical, and first to every 50/50, with Moritz giving everything down the wing to win the ball back. With a huge team effort, we pressed until they panicked. The ball fell to Jimmy, who rolled past his defender and curled a brilliant finish into the top-right corner to make it 2–1.
Max continued to make intelligent runs, and Jimmy’s passing picked him out perfectly with a delicate chipped ball. Max stayed composed one-on-one with the goalkeeper, went wide, and finished clinically to make it 3–1. Even with the lead, we did not switch off. Ethan and Charlie were excellent at the back, and Alex and Albie defended superbly to keep Wimbledon College away from the final third. Max thought he had grabbed another after a great run and a smart pass from Jimmy, but it was ruled offside. That only made us more determined to see out the win.
In the last five minutes, we defended deep and stayed compact to protect our lead. Unfortunately, a long throw landed at their number 10, and without enough pressure on the ball he drove it into the net to make it 3–2. It was a tight finish, but Claremont never gives up. We worked for each other, defended strongly, and David’s performance kept us in control. Without him, the score could have been very different. A great victory, a great start to the season, and I hope we can consistently keep putting in hard-working performances like this.
Man of the Match: Jimmy Wilson
Honourable mention: Moritz Marth — strong in every challenge.
Play of the Match: Fergus’ goal-line clearance.
A tough fixture against Wimbledon College started off strong for Claremont in the first half where the defence showed great shape and determination to keep the ball out of the net, with Rory levelling the match at 1-1. Sadly in the final minutes of the first half a few bits of brilliance led to Wimbledon College taking a 3-1 lead into the break, with Aleks in goal preventing it from becoming more. In the second half Claremont continued to work hard and tried to find a breakthrough however a few gaps started to appear in the defence leading to Wimbledon scoring 5 more in the second half and the match finishing 8-1.
The first half was a bit of a shock. Wimbledon were a more physical team, dominating the 50/50 challenges leaving Claremont starved of possession; 3 – 0 down at half time. Claremont came back stronger in the second half. Callum played excellently in the middle of the pitch, the forwards created some great chances that we were unable to convert. A 6-0 loss against a strong team. The boys kept at it and dealt well with a change from 11 to 7 aside. We’ll train hard this week and go again next Saturday.
Our U12C team faced a very strong Wimbledon side in a difficult opening fixture of the season. It was a challenging morning, with Wimbledon outclassing us across the pitch. Despite the heavy pressure, Rory was outstanding in goal, making a number of top-quality saves that prevented the score line from being significantly worse. There were brief moments where Claremont showed signs of good passing and attacking fluidity, but overall we struggled to compete physically and tactically against a well-organised opposition. This was a tough learning experience and not the way the team would have wanted to start their season, but it’s one we will move on from quickly, using it as a benchmark for the standards required going forward. Player of the Match goes to James H, who played a key role whenever Claremont had possession.
The U13 gymnastics team had an excellent day at the Surrey floor and vault. The gymnasts showcased some fantastic floor routines and performed some impressive vaults. A excellent day and a well deserved 6th place was achieved.

Internal ‘trial’ matches were held across the school age groups on Saturday, as Claremont lacrosse squads build towards the inter school matches, Coloma Cup, County and National tournaments ahead. Regrettably, waterlogged pitches at Caterham caused the cancellation of the U13 Counties tournament on Wednesday 21st January. This coming Saturday promises a full programme of fixtures against Berkhamsted School. Let’s hope every cloud does indeed have a silver lining.

We faced Gordon’s on Thursday in the LTA Senior League, and what a day it was for our teams! Senior Girls A Team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a fantastic 10–2 win. Well, done to Sofia C, Anais P, Olivia B, and Linea P, brilliant tennis all round!
Senior Boys A Team battled hard in an incredibly close match that went all the way to a championship tie-break. Despite a narrow 9–7 loss, the boys showed great determination and team spirit. Well, done to Nicky O, Nahar N, Zoravar R, and Aaron Roux for a strong performance. Proud of both teams. Keep it up.
