As the term draws to a close, we reflect on a packed sports program, despite some adverse weather in the dramatic arrival of Storms’ Bert and Darragh. The sports fields have been awash with competition, fun and energy, with some excellent results across the school. Perhaps it is only fitting to conclude this term’s Sports Round Up by congratulating the Boys Under 14A rugby squad, who went unbeaten across the entire season. Congratulations to everyone, and to all pupils that have represented the school this term.

Lacrosse, Netball and Rugby House Matches have been competitive and fun across the final week of term, but there have also been some school fixtures, including Indoor Cricket tournaments.

Archery

The first results for the southern counties postal league are in, highlighting some excellent individual placings. Three Claremont archers, Comet P, Jay D and Rosie H made the Junior Surrey team this month – congratulations all!

Cricket

U15 Girls

Match 1 v Hinchley Wood – Won by 50 runs

Match 2 v Esher High – Won by 20 runs

Match 3 v Three Rivers – Won by 30 runs

Despite nerves regarding the format of the competition the girls quickly absorbed what they needed to do and then had the chance to watch the first game. In the end, it was just very good batting bowling and fielding, consistently across all three games that meant the girls won comfortably. With a commanding score batting first against Hinchley Wood, the girls went into the field. If there were any nerves, these were quickly allayed by Adeline producing two brilliant direct hit run outs in two balls. This removed the two real threats, and the game then became a procession.

Game 2 was a more straight forward affair and having batted first again to set a formidable total, the girls bowled accurately and Esher were never really in the hunt. The batting was shared around this time meaning that come the final game, the girls were all much more confident when they were called upon.

Game 3 against Three Rivers was the deciding match as the winner of this game would be progressing to the next round. Claremont batted first again and produced an excellent team performance to set another strong total against a consistent bowling outfit. The running between the wickets had improved steadily in each game and with runs being stolen at every opportunity the total really mounted up. In the field, the bowling was the most accurate it had been. Despite some lusty hitting from Three Rivers, wickets consistently fell through tight bowling, good catching and excellent fielding.

Many of the girls made notable contributions, with Emma D, Holly R both retiring and almost all the girls producing good bowling performances. However, the outstanding performer on the day was Emily R who batted and bowled very effectively in all the

games, but most importantly seemed to do it just when the team needed impetus. In all three games, her batting, bowling, or in fact both, in the final game were the difference. On to the next round…whenever, or wherever that might be and possibly a little practice beforehand might be warranted.

U13 Boys

The Claremont U13 Boys cricket team played in the National Indoor Cricket tournament (Group L). The boys were unbeaten in their three matches and dominant in every game.

Sam B’s precision and accuracy was largely unplayable. Nathan de A was star of the day, with two spectacular catches. Well played boys, on to the next round!

U13 Girls

The U13 girls played an indoor cricket tournament against Salesian school at home and after a fantastic all round bowling performance by CFC restricting the opposition to 63 off 8 overs, they managed to chase down the score in 4 overs and eventually post a final total of 123.

Golf

Congratulations to Year 13 pupil Max G who has accepted golf and academic scholarships to a US university, Limestone in South Carolina. Max will join Limestone’s golf roster in September 2025. This is a fantastic achievement and is testament to Max’s talent and commitment. We wish him every success in the future!

Netball

Under 15 A&B teams played against Surbiton High in competitive fixtures this week and were able to showcase their skills and the technique they have been practicing in training since September. Rounding off 2024, both teams played well with mixed players and combinations which showcased their depth and positional variety. Despite the defeats, well done to both squads.
