Lost 6-2. The U15 girls were outstanding away at South Park FC on astro where they played against Dunottar. The girls had to sit in and defend for initial parts of the game and sustained pressure from the Dunottar side, who moved the ball extremely well. The defensive structure and pressure that the Claremont girls adopted was brilliant and some great saves from Jade and tackles from Thea kept us in the game. After conceding a few goals mid-way through the first half we got a goal back after Anais sprinted past the Dunottar defence and tucked away a nice finish in the bottom corner.
The second half was a similar story with Claremont absorbing lots of pressure and digging in well, but the opposition added to their tally making it six. In the final moments of the game the girls pushed for more attacking chances and Anais again ran clear and struck the ball across the goalkeeper finishing the game 6-2. A cold and wet afternoon where the girls battled hard all game and should proud of their progress!
Won 6-4. A steady start for the first team due to a lack of warm up and questionable pitch conditions. However, after a short while, we found our feet again. A low scoring game thanks to some fab saves from Calia and good team defence. Attack converted well with a fantastic, pushed goal to finish when Miss Chandler got the score wrong! Player of the match went to both Isla S and Minnie F.
Lost 4-13. With a depleted 3rd team, it was a tough game for the girls, where they experienced a loss to a strong Benenden side. However, they pulled together and had moments of some great lacrosse. Daisy’s goal boosted morale and Amelia made such a difference on the pitch within a midfielder position, which is something she isn’t used it. Well done to Sophie who was awarded player of the match, it was lovely to see her back on the pitch this week.
Won 7-4. After a very busy week of lacrosse post the Surrey County tournament, the girls were able to let the ball do most of the work as the game ended as a convincing win to Claremont.
Lost 7-4. A strong start from Benenden meant we had a three-goal deficit to climb back from during the first half. Some good efforts from Adeline and Jade in attack helped us here. Defensively, we grew as the game went on. There were stand out performances from Millie and Olivia. We were also very grateful for some of our U14s who stepped up to play in a U15s game. Unfortunately, we gave ourselves too much to do in the second half and the game finished 7-4 to Benenden.
Won 13-2. A high scoring game for Claremont was fantastic to see by so many travelling parents. By the ball carrier taking the ball around the goal, to draw defenders out, it allowed players such as Ella and Emily to attack towards an open goal. Defence such as Thea and Olivia were extremely strong, which allowed Lola to have a quiet game in goal. Well done to Amber Lily who was relaxed when in possession of the ball, and made it easier for the team to control the game. Coaches player of the match went to Emily R and opposition player of the match went to Ella and Thea H.
Lost 6-5. A very hard-fought game for the B team which was end to end. Some fantastic defensive play and turnovers. The team adapted well to their speedy players but unfortunately missed out by one goal. Player of the match went to Mona.
Won 10-3. A fantastic performance, Claremont linked the ball well in attack and we were able to work on tactics that we had practiced in games lesson.
Won 10-1. Another high scoring game for the 12B’s. Strong defence by making contact with the hips made it hard for Benenden to score. The girls were incredible passing the ball around the fan in attack. Thea and Helena demonstrated great stick work and were able to utilise each other in order to score lots of goals. A brilliant game, well done girls! Player of the match went to both Ella P and Helena.
On a horribly wet, windy afternoon, the girls showed great resilience in all the matches against GHS, with victories for the A and D teams, and narrow losses for B and C squads. There were two stand out performances from Poppy M-W with some well-timed interceptions and Abbie W for some brilliant shooting.
Lost 10-19. A chill morning saw the 1st play away at CV at the historic Wasps RFC. Three handling errors in the first half flattered the hosts but a strong chat under the posts saw Claremont press the hosts for fifteen mins in their own 22m with no reward. The second half saw Claremont bounce back with tries from Louie G and Ethan G after slick handling down the line. Final score was 10-19 with Claremont on top for most of the second half. Player of the match went to George T for his aggressive tackling.
Won 33-28. A tough fought match on a grey day, saw Claremont seized the spoils but not before a fright as the hosts battled back. Early tries from Seb W and a cast iron certainty for try of the season from Josh H, gave Claremont the initiative, only to be pegged back by a break away try as the patten of the game was established. Sam C hit a brilliant line to extend the lead with Hugo crashing over to apparently give Claremont an unassailable advantage.
Tackling grew ragged as CV returned some wayward Claremont clearances, two swift tries leaving the game finely balanced going into the final minutes, before Fred W settled nerves with a well worked try out left, scoring at the second attempt after a mix up with the white lines. With Chester excellent from the tee, bar one conversion that rattled the upright, the match was won but true to the to and fro in a highly entertaining fixture, CV broke away to score at the death, the five point victory margin, a fair reflection of the game.
Won 47-0. What a performance this was. Cardinal Vaughan came to us with a very strong record of results. Last years fixture was a narrow 25-20 win meant this was likely to be a close contest and it was. Both started the game with great purpose, carrying he ball into contact with aggression and the support play meant that successive phases of play were regularly achieved. However, Cardinal Vaughan were particularly strong on the counter ruck and throughout the game this was a thorn in Claremont’s side.
The key element to this game was the direct and powerful running of Giles who made ground on every carry and quickly spread fear amongst the opposition defence. Indeed, He marauded his way through, scoring a try to open the scoring after ten minutes of extremely even contest. He repeated the dose two minutes later, But from then on, the game again became very even. However, his opportunities came about because of the movement and lines of running created by the backs with Eden and Lucas causing confusion and flat defence.
Cardinal Vaughan came back hard at the start of the second half, but with both teams making some simple mistakes, a Claremont attacking ruck 10m out allowed Giles to make a blind side run off Micah at 9 and this signalled the parting of the Red Sea. Cardinal Vaughan’s resistance was broken and Claremont’s strong runners ran rampant. Eden and Lucas continued to create space in the back line and James S was a tremendous runner through the forwards, scoring two tries of his own. At one point, such was Claremont’s dominance, Cardinal Vaughan had committed all 15 players to a defensive ruck, Eden duly scoring, what turned out to be the final try of the game.
The final score is not reflective of what was an extremely tight and competitive affair but it is just reward for exceptional hard work and a very mature performance for all the boys. Giles’s four tries highlighted his dominance in this game. But a special note must go to Brodie who was called upon to run regularly with the ball in any number of situations. He always made ground and always retained possession.
Loss 28-7. The Under 14B side came up against a physical, strong team in Cardinal Vaughan School. Despite Blake Askew equalizing with an excellent team try late in the second half, handling errors and missed tackles proved to be costly in the second half, with the score finishing at 28-7. On to next week lads!
Lost 7-1. Aaron scored Claremont’s try, though James Spading almost added a spectacular 60 metre second but for a toe that brushed the whitewash!
Oh, what this game might have been! The boys were shocked at the physicality of the opposition and let in five tries in the first 12 minutes. Then the leaders of the team began to show everyone what was required. The team followed, scoring 4 unanswered tries in the second half. If only the game had been a few minutes longer…
