The U15 girls cricket team played in the second round of the Indoor County Cup tournament and faced strong opposition playing against Wimbledon High and KGS, losing both games but played well. In their final match against Gordons they batted and bowled superbly and won the game with 2 overs to go in a great all round team performance.
The U15As lost 3-2 in a performance that deserved far more! An even first half saw Freemens threaten with more chances and go into half time 2-0 up, despite some great possession football played by CFC.
The second half was played virtually all in the Freemens half, with Claremont moving the ball well, defending counter attacks admirably and attacking the box on numerous occasions. Despite the pressure, Claremont only managed one goal before Freemens hit again on the counter to score a back-breaking 3rd with 5 minutes to go. Claremont managed a late consolation, followed immediately by the full-time whistle. In spite of the result, a performance the boys can be very proud of!
A comprehensive victory on a beautiful morning, azure skies the stunning backdrop for a dominant win. Two first half goals set the tone, Claremont enjoying the slope and dazzling sun, CLFS unable to break out from their own half under pressure from the start.
Five second half goals reflects the possession and authority Claremont enjoyed, a Fred W hat trick, and further scores from Will, Joe, Adam and Charlie B reward for teamwork and enjoyment the boys clearly derived from the kick off. There will be tougher tests ahead, but Claremont can take confidence from this sparkling performance. Won 7-0.
A much improved performance all round after a difficult start last week. Freemans weren’t given a moment to settle from the off and once this team realised they might be in the ascendency, the confidence flowed back. It took ten minutes for the first goal, but from then on, the team believed they could dominate and win. Much improved support play meant the boys overwhelmed the opposition and need passing and interplay in a crowded final third allowed AB to rapidly score two goals. By half time the score was up to 5 and it now needed to be a game about quality not merely driving forward.
Substitutions and positional changes challenged the team to adapt and communicate better but the boys made light of this and finished the game worthy winners.
Challenges for next week continue to be communication, calling for the ball, rather than assuming our team mate knows they are there and most of all looking to create more space through switching play. All sound simple on paper, definitely more difficult in practice!
The U12A’s have got off to a great start this football season managing to squeeze in a number of games against Salesian College, KCS, Wimbledon College, and City of London Freemen’s. They have had to overcome lots of injuries and have started to really settle into a great style of play with defending well, moving the ball quickly and being direct when they can. On Saturday 25 January they managed to win 2-1 in a well contested game which went to the final few minutes. Some great performances Ethan S, Charlie L, and Alex B in defending and scoring the goals Jimmy W and Max C. Keep up the great start and continue to work hard to improve week on week.
A very promising match, Claremont scored first through Alex A, he was unlucky not to grab a second moments later. David had another excellent match in goal, although CLFS didn’t threaten much in the early stages David still had to make a few excellent saves. Claremont looked so much more threatening when they maintained their shape, there was a period either side of half time when CLFS were able to get the upper hand and scored a few goals. Claremont ended the half strongly pressuring the CLFS goal and being unfortunate not to score. MoTM was David D yet another excellent performance.
U12C played City of London Freemen’s on Saturday in a very close match. Alex P in goal was fantastic as per all season. The final score was a 2-1 loss to CFC, despite a great performance from Alec C and goal from Oscar T.
The 1st team had a rushed start to Saturday which meant it took a while to warm up. Emily I scoring the opening goal with her super speed. Defence had some fantastic turnovers after noticing they weren’t afraid to shoot early. We struggled to settle the ball at the other end and hold long possessions but managed to carry the lead the whole game. We look forward to this week’s tournament as some pre Nationals practice.
It was a slow start for the 2nd lacrosse team versus St Helen and Katherine’s losing the first quarter 3-0. Claremont fought back with some energetic defence for the remainder of the match, showcasing effective slides and crashes, however, struggled to convert in our attacking end. Final score 5-0 to SHSK.
After an early start, the third team took a while to get going but after a regroup and team talk, they really improved and it was positive to see some more shots on goal. Lucy and Mia really stepped up their defence and Faris made some key saves, with some excellent clears down the pitch. Some positives to take forward but lots of fitness work to develop before nationals. Thank you for showing such commitment to lacrosse!
A fantastic match in preparation for south schools this week. Some great work on our midfield transitions and set up some very good attacking opportunities.
The U14’s had a tiring game on Saturday with a few of them stepping in to play for other teams. When it came to their game – the defence and Lola-R were on fire! After being a few goals up, we struggled to clear the ball up the pitch, allowing Hel Kat’s to catch up. Thankfully in the very last minute, we managed to break the half way line and Holly R came running over from another game to score the winning goal! 6-5 to Claremont.
A deceptively bright day at St Theresa’s Y8 Netball tournament, saw some great matches and terrific sportsmanship, the wind chill matched by the ice in the veins of the Claremont attackers Alice B, Zoe W and Abbie W in front of the hoop. Lulu was industrious at Centre, with Jess A named Claremont Players Player for her energy and determination at GK.
For the record Claremont came away with W2 D1 L3 across the tournament but can be pleased with a determined effort from the whole team. A thoroughly enjoyable day was matched by the tuneful harmonies on the minibus back home. Well done girls.
The U14s came out in style with a great fixture against Notre Dame. With slick attack and tight defence, the games were competitive and showcased great game knowledge and put into practice lessons learnt at training.
The Senior boys played their final LTA League tennis group match against George Abbot. It was an exciting and evenly matched contest, with some impressive long rallies showcasing the skill and determination of both teams. Despite their best efforts, the boys were narrowly defeated, which placed them in 3rd place in their group. A huge well done to all the players for their dedication and hard work throughout the season! Players: Leo S, Ben SP, Nicky O, Ollie R
The recent cross-country event took place at Wellington Prep (formerly known as Eagle House), with students facing the notorious ‘killer hill’. Despite the chilly weather and the muddy ground, the students gave their best efforts and finished strong. The challenging course didn’t stop them from enjoying themselves, and they showed truly great determination throughout the race. Huge congratulations to everyone for their incredible effort and sportsmanship and to all the students who participated!
