We at Claremont Fan Court School wanted to show our support to the child victims of the conflict in Ukraine.  We are raising money for the War Child Ukrainian appeal.  The aim is to help the charity provide food, shelter and blankets to cope with the growing refugee crisis. War Child stay in the area long after the cameras have left to provide support in keeping children safe, gain an education to equip them with the skills required for the future.

On the 24 and 25 March the whole school walked for Ukraine. It is 1505 miles from Esher to Kyiv. As a show of support, the school community covered this distance by everyone walking 1-mile laps around the school.

The first goal we had was to walk to Kyiv, 1505 miles. After completing that, we aimed to walk to other war torn areas including:

2240 from Esher to Palestine

2400 from Esher to Damascus

3491 from Esher to Sanaa (Yemen)

The Senior School alone did 3,000 miles combined, meaning we more than reached our goal to walk to Kyiv. When adding on the Pre-Prep and Prep school’s efforts too, the whole school walked the equivalent to walking to Sanaa in Yemen.

On March 25 we also held a Krispy Kreme donut sale to help raise more money for War Child. In addition to this, on Friday 18 March, Senior School children also fundraised with an ‘own-clothing’ day.

Even though the walk is now over, we are still taking donations via Just Giving as we still need more funds to hit our target. Please support the school community’s effort to raise as much money as possible for this cause. If you would like to donate, please click the link below:
