Another frustrating week out in the middle, as the weather claimed last week’s entire Saturday cricket fixture schedule, and carried through into the early part of the new week. “More of the same” was the frustrating forecast, with thunder showers scattering the field, yet happily interspersed by some exciting sport action at the end of the stunning double rainbow.
Tuesday enjoyed a Y7&8 Track meet, but sadly the Y9&10 Track and Field meet on Thursday fell at the water hurdle as more rain swept through.
Congratulations to our athletes that contested the West Surrey Prep School trials, held at Guildford Spectrum. Will G came first in the Hurdles race, Pippa H first in the shot, with Elsa D-O first in the 100m final, all of whom automatically progress to the National Prep Schools Championship in Birmingham on July 1st.

U14A v Wimbledon College
Friday afternoon witnessed an unlikely thriller before the rain arrived, as Claremont won a low scoring game through some excellent bowling. Stumbling to a vulnerable 71 all out, indebted to 48 Extras, the Claremont batting order struggled to impact the scoreboard, an early finish seemingly imminent. Claremont bowlers had other plans however, Brodie (1-4) and Harrison setting the tone with some miserly economy and accuracy, well supported by Finn, Max (2-5), William W and Taruk. Wimbledon were severely restricted by this controlled bowling display, reaching just 27-5 after eleven overs, before a late rally increased the tension, one home batter alone in reaching double figures in the match. The bowlers held firm however, Wimbledon’s innings closing at 66- 9, with Harrison (2-8) the pick of the bowlers, but for his excellent wicket keeping throughout, George claiming the PoM award.
U15B v Cranleigh
A thoroughly enjoyable match in the evening sunshine saw Claremont scramble home to a five wicket victory at Cranleigh. Tight bowling restricted the hosts to 106-6 from their twenty overs, with James A and Archie W taking two wickets apiece, Oscar I claiming a brilliant catch at cover and Josh M keeping well. Despite a sizeable Extras total (40 in wides), the modest total looked eminently reachable.. Claremont’s chase got off to a striking start, Blake’s quickfire 26 from 15 balls setting the visitors on the road to victory. James A and Charlie C steadied a slight stumble in the mid order, Claremont edging home with two overs to spare.
U13A v St George’s, Weybridge
U13A played away in an exciting game at St George’s Weybridge in a 16 over game where the hosts batted first and managed to score a total of 85/8. CFC opener Jimmy W batted through until the 13th over scoring 37 and was out with 70 on the board leaving James P to finish the job alongside Barend A. Requiring one to tie and two to win the match off the last ball of the innings, they managed to run three in a fantastic, enjoyable match. MVP’s were Jimmy W and James P.
U13B v St George’s, Weybridge
Claremont batted first, losing an early wicket, before Arthur came to the crease and dominated the bowling across the 16 overs, scoring 56 not out, of the 90 total. Chasing the relatively low score, St Georges came out all guns blazing, knocking off the runs within 12 overs, including a sixty not out from their No.3.
U13A Girls v Surbiton High School
Claremont scored 87 from their ten overs, with some excellent batting from Izzy J, Grace A and Genevive….In reply, the Surbiton batters reached 82 having to contend with some accurate bowling and a sudden rain deluge, Claremont finding the pot of gold at the end of a the stunning double rainbow to seize the spoils.
U13B Girls v Surbiton High School
U13B girls played against Surbiton in a game of two halves where the opposition scored 255 off ten overs which included 44 in extras! There was so much talking and embarrassed laughing that the umpires eventually had to give no ball calls to stop the CFC girls from nattering! Claremont batted really well and chased the score ending up with 278. Great batting from Diana M. Apparently on the next game Marcel Marceau will coach the girls through the match!

A strange anomaly in the draw, saw Claremont A play Claremont B at Sandown golf course in a semi-final, with the winner progressing to the National ISGA Plate final on 25th June at Brompton Park. The B team took the spoils in this hotly contested battle, Giles S, Freddie H and Hugo B claiming bragging rights and the honour of representing the school later in the month.

A memorable day out at the IAPS Aquathon, saw squads of Boys and Girls compete in this stunning National arena. The four boys in the U11 Freestyle relay team turned up at the London Aquatic Centre ready for an unforgettable swimming experience. They finished their heat in 9th place with a time of 1:05:96, a significant improvement over their qualifying time of 1:07:71 Well done to all those who swam. The Girls squad finished fifth in their heat, a highly commendable result.
