Sports round-up
·19 June 2026
Record temperatures across Enrichment Week, entirely validated the break from sport, with scorching heat proving too fierce to safely hold Sports Day, postponed until the last day of term. French excursions, PGL and DofE trips gave way to final cricket fixtures last Saturday, with ‘A’ teams playing Salesian, to wind up the season. As we bowl the final overs this term, we reflect on turbulent weather extremes, torrential downpours, thunder, lightning, mercury melting heat, and a plethora of sporting activity As we head back to the pavilion alongside Ben Stokes, pack away bats and pads, and after Sir Harry saved us against DR Congo…still dream of World Cup glory, we hope you have enjoyed these weekly Sports Round Ups, and look forward to your patronage again from next September. Enjoy your holidays, wherever they make take you. “Some people are on the pitch, they think it’s all over…. It is now!”

Junior National Tour and Windsor Competition Report
Izzy travelled to Windsor on 24th June to compete in a Windsor 30 round, enjoying near-perfect shooting conditions. The weather was warm and sunny, if slightly hot at times, but calm air meant there was very little wind to contend with – ideal for consistent scoring.
The Windsor 30 is a classic Junior outdoor round consisting of three distances: 30, 20, and 10 yards. Archers shoot 36 arrows at each distance, for a total of 108 arrows over the course of the round. As the distances shorten, maintaining concentration and maximising scoring opportunities becomes key.
Izzy produced an excellent performance across all three distances. She settled well into the round at 30 yards, establishing a strong foundation before capitalising at the shorter distances where tight grouping and precision really paid off. Her shooting remained composed and consistent throughout, demonstrating clear technical control and growing confidence. The result was a fantastic achievement: a gold medal, along with a score that improved her personal best by over 100 points—a significant milestone and a reflection of the progress she has been making in training. This performance is particularly impressive given the demands of the round, which requires both endurance and sustained focus over a large number of arrows, especially in warm conditions. Overall, it was a highly successful day for Izzy, showcasing both her development and competitive mindset. A well-deserved result, and a great sign of things to come for the rest of the season.
WA50 on June 13th
Rosie is also very pleased with how she shot at the Archery GB Junior Archery Series competition at Wallingford on Saturday, her first competition at that level or distance. After the qualifiers (72 arrows at a distance of 50m), she was in 8th position out of the 13 Barebow Female Youth (U21) archers. This decided the rankings and the draw for the head to head knock out matches. This was her first time in a head to head competition – shooting three arrows per end with two points for a win and one for a draw and the winner being the first to six points.
She won her first head to head match 6-2 (against an archer who she overtook in the final end of the qualifiers but who usually shoots at Master Bowman level) and moved into the final eight. Her next opponent, has just been selected to represent Great Britain so Rosie knew it would be a challenge! She was delighted when the first end was a draw so they both scored a point. The next three ends didn’t go her way and her opponent went on to come second overall behind an archer who represents Wales internationally. Rosie finished in seventh place – a fantastic achievement against some tough competition. We also believe her score of 368 is a new county record for Surrey!
On a cloudy Wednesday in Birmingham, two pupils proudly presented West Surrey at the National Prep Schools Athletics Championships after winning their events at the selection meet earlier in the season. Will G was first up in the U14 boys 80m hurdles. He finished fourth in the fastest heat of the day and made the final as one of the fastest non-qualifiers. In the final he had a great start but the smoothness over the hurdles from his competitors saw him finish narrowly outside the medals in fifth.
Pippa H competed in the U14 girls shot. This was a two horse race and both competitors threw consistently over 10m. Pippa finished 2nd overall and although she wanted to get over 11m, she was proud of her performance after a very strong season. She then had discus and performed well but after a long day in the sun, Pippa lacked that final zip in her arm to challenge for the podium.

U15A v Salesian
Claremont U15As had a thrilling tied final match of the season. Claremont scored 114 with the bat. In reply the tension grew, with Salesian needing three off the last ball to win. They managed to get two runs to tie a brilliant game and some great performances all round.
U14A v Salesian
U14A played against Salesian and after CFC’s reversed their batting order, they managed to post a massive 160 off 16 overs. The 11 over partnership between Oscar I and Charlie S was the highlight of the game scoring a combined 111 runs. The oppositions chase was a fantastic attempt but ended on 127. MVP was Charlie S scoring 50 not out.
U13A v Salesian
A fun finale to the U13A cricket season, saw an early start for the visit of Salesian School. Salesian batted first, scoring 115 from their 16 overs, a scoreline that looked reachable given the fast start the visitors made, 72 runs strong at the half way point, before the innings stalled. Claremont showed familiar failings in some suicidal running at the start, and looked destined for a swift demise, before Max C took charge, two straight driven sixes and several fours in his 33, sending flutters through a disciplined Salesian bowling line up. Once the vulnerable spinners had bowled, the return of some accurate seam bowling ultimately put paid to the home charge, Claremont bowled out for 94. PoM was Max, with Albie bowling a tight spell and Jeffrey keeping well.
U12A v Salesian
The Claremont batting line up could not capitalise on a strong start, all out for just 110, with Salesian reaching the target after 17 overs. George S was retired after opening with 30, striking the ball well and running intelligently. The bowlers created chances, with Harrison taking two good catches, but the game ultimately tipped on several dropped chances.
ISTA Championship – Day 1
The Senior Boys put in a fantastic performance today, narrowly missing out on remaining in the Youll Cup competition. After a closely contested match against Mill Hill, they were edged out 3–2 in a tie-break. Unfortunately, their competition came to an end in the Plate competition, where they were beaten 2–0 by Rugby.
U15 Boys
Leo & Jack played really well today, finishing 3rd in their group. They narrowly missed out on qualification for the Thomas Bowl Cup and will now compete in the Phillip Cup (Plate competition). Charlie & Nathaniel also had an excellent day, finishing 2nd in their group to qualify for the Thomas Bowl Cup. They will face KCS in the knockout stages. A win will see them progress to the next round, while a defeat will move them into the Springthorpe Cup. It’s set to be a big day tomorrow for the U15 Boys.
U15 Girls
Jessica, Sophie, Kareena & Holly faced a very challenging day against strong opposition and finished 5th in their group. They will now compete in the Springthorpe Cup, where they’ll be looking to build on today’s experience and finish the tournament strongly.
ISTA Championship – Day Two
Senior Girls
The Senior A and B Girls’ teams arrived for their first day of the ISTA Championships and went straight into their box-stage matches.
Both teams played some very tight matches and produced some excellent performances. Unfortunately, both narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Loveband Knockout competition, meaning they progressed to the Loveband Plate.
For the A Team, Sofia C and Sophie W were just one match away from securing a place among the top 16 schools, bringing their tournament to an end.
The B Team pairing of Linea P and Isabella L won their box, earning a place in the top 16. They will return on Day 3 to compete for the Loveband Plate title.
U15 Boys
Leo and Jack progressed to the Phillip Cup (Plate competition). Unfortunately, their tournament came to an end after being knocked out.
Charlie S and Nathaniel RT faced KCS in the knockout stages and narrowly lost a closely contested match. They then moved into the Springthorpe Cup, where they faced Rugby in another tough encounter. Despite a strong performance, they were unfortunately knocked out of the competition.
U15 Girls
Both U15 Girls’ teams earned another opportunity to compete in the Springthorpe Cup.
Kareena D and Holly F were unfortunately knocked out in their opening match.
Alice B and Jessica L produced an excellent performance to secure second place in their group, earning a place in the next stage of the Springthorpe Cup. They will return on Day 3 to continue their campaign.

ISTA Championship – Day 3
Our Senior Girls pairing of Linea P and Isabella L, along with our U15 Girls, returned to the ISTA Championships after securing places in the top 16 of their respective competitions. Linea and Isabella began their Loveband Plate campaign against Bristol. After an excellent performance, they secured a place in the quarter-finals. They then faced St Helen’s and St Katherine’s in a hard-fought match. The girls battled until the very end to keep their tournament alive, but unfortunately, their journey came to an emotional end. They should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
In the Springthorpe Cup, Alice and Jessica took on Marlborough 2 and produced a comfortable victory to reach the quarter-finals. There, they faced Marlborough 1 in a closely contested match. The girls fought with determination from start to finish, but despite their tremendous effort, they were narrowly defeated. It was an outstanding performance, and I couldn’t be prouder of both teams. Today also marked the start of the competition for our U13 Boys and U13 Girls.
For the U13 Boys, George S and Dylan K competed in their first-ever ISTA Championships. They played in the John Barrett Cup box-stage competition and successfully qualified for the John Barrett Plate, where they will continue their campaign on Day 4. We wish them the very best of luck! Our U13 Girls—Greta B, Elsa DO, Genevieve H, and Lily ES—also made their ISTA Championship debut in the Ralph Cake Cup box stages. The girls produced some excellent performances throughout the day, with both pairs finishing second in their respective groups. This fantastic achievement earned them places in the Ralph Cake Cup competition on the final day.
Congratulations to all of our players on another fantastic day of tennis. Good luck to everyone competing on Day 4!
The term crossed the finish line with an exciting and hotly contested Sports Day, with results announced at the end of term Assembly, where Longcross were proclaimed the winners. Suffice it to say the PE Dept retained the Teachers Relay title, and must be congratulated on the exceptional term they have presided over.
