London Marathon

Our own Mr Isberg ran a stellar time at the London Marathon, his time of 3:29:05 is something that both he and everyone at Claremont should be incredibly proud of.

Mr Isberg said the whole experience was “just phenomenal.” His finishing time places him within the top 15% of the 56000 field, quite some achievement.

Archery

Royal Richmond Pagoda shoot

The first outdoor away shoot of the archery season was held on Sunday, April 13th. Claremont was represented by three students and one staff member shooting the Windsor round (9 dozen arrows, 3 dozen shot at each distance starting at 60 yards, then 50 yards and finally 40 yards).

The entire team shot amazingly well, with Comet (Yr 11) and Max (Yr13) shooting Barebow, while Jay (Yr 13) and Mrs Cox shot Recurve. The weather was something of a challenge, changing from sunny and warm to wet and windy – and almost everything in between (except snow) – but they handled the changing conditions well.

The result was fantastic, with four personal best scores and two gold medals for Comet and Max, with Jay placed second and Mrs Cox coming in 10th.

Southern Counties Portsmouth Postal League

The Southern Counties Portsmouth Postal League is a competition held across the winter season. Archers submitted one Portsmouth round score (5 dozen arrows at 20 yards on a 60cm target) each month from November to March. The competition is open to any archer in the Southern Counties of the UK (Surrey, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Sussex, Hampshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Essex).

Claremont had archers in the Surrey Junior team in every month of the competition, resulting in Rosie (Yr 9) coming 2nd place over all in Jnr Lady Barebow and Jay (Yr 13) finishing 3rd place overall in Jnr Men Recurve in Surrey.

Cricket

U14A

A close game away at Wimbledon College saw the U14A squad emerge with a 25-run victory, but not before some quixotic fielding allowed the hosts to get far closer to the Claremont total than should have been the case. Giles H stole the show, drilling 3 woods off the fairway with minimal footwork and maximum sixes in an unbeaten 52, with Extras providing a further 58 of the 164 total.

James A was the pick of the Claremont bowlers, despite a fine half-century from the Wimbledon captain, his three wicket over dismissed both the skipper and two others in a match turning spell. A decent catch from Oscar I, running to claim a spiralling ball dropping over his shoulder was the fielding highlight in an otherwise poor display, with throwing, catching and backing up much in need of improvement. The victory margin was more than adequate, but the team will be aware that tighter control of matches will be needed moving forward.

The U14A also played in the Anderson Cup away at RGS Guildford and after CFC scored a low total of 66/7 they then bowled against some excellent batting and RGS chased down the target for a loss of just 1 wicket in just 8 overs. Ally J bowled exceptionally under the circumstances.

U13A

The U13A team played Downsend in the 1st round of the cup. After restricting the opposition to 124, the boys set out to chase the score down but fell short by 19 runs ending up on 105. Player of the match was Nathan A taking four wickets.

Claremont hosted Dunottar for the first Saturday fixture of the season and were sent into bat by our guests who won the toss. Hugo B and Max S set a strong foundation, seeing off the best of the Dunottar attack and striking the ball cleanly. Max S was retired on 30 not out after a fine batting performance. Other notable contributors with the bat were Jack D and Zain S, who ran well between the wickets and added several boundaries to our total. Claremont posted an impressive 155 all-out, our tail having faced the return of Dunottar’s stronger bowlers with bravery and skill, especially Aneel K.

Claremont were joined in the field by the emerging sun and were focused on not giving away extras that could allow Dunottar into the game. Roshi A and Nathan D-A bowled economically and got reward, with Roshi at one point on a hat-trick ball. Oscar I, our captain, bowled one of the best deliveries Claremont has seen at his age group with a fast in-swinger that clipped the top of the bails, breaking one of them in the process. Will C and Sam B also stifled the run-rate and got wickets, but the highlight in the field must go to Jack D who took an incredible diving catch off the bowling of Hugo B. Claremont ultimately won by 39 runs against a strong opposition, a very promising start to the season.

U13A Girls

A fun, frantic ten over a side frolic, saw Claremont beat Surbiton U13A Girls, with Alice and Mia guiding the girls home in an unbroken third wicket partnership. Their 69-2 chased down Surbiton’s 65-2 (two batters also retired to give their team mates more time at the crease). Both of the visitors wickets were taken by Mia who finished with 2 wickets for 3 runs.

U12A v Dunottar

Despite a battling unbeaten 62 from Ethan S, Claremont slipped to an opening defeat in the Surrey Hills. The picturesque West Humble ground stands in the lea of Box Hill, Claremont perhaps guilty of admiring the view more than the excellent running of the Dunottar openers.

The hosts took advantage of some soporific fielding, allowing too many bye and quick singles, to rapidly accelerate the hosts scoreboard in the first few overs. Max C bowled two tidy overs, pace off more efficient on a spongy surface, with Jeffrey solid behind the stumps.

Both Claremont openers fell cheaply, and despite good support from Alex (21), Ethan had too much work to do to close the margin. Dunottar bowled and particularly fielded impressively to comfortably close out a 27 run victory.

The U12A boys played in the Jubilee Trophy against RGS Guildford. Claremont tried to restrict the opposition batters after scoring just 71 all out against some very tidy bowling, but the opposition managed to chase down the score in 9.2 overs. Player of the game was Jeffrey W with his batting.

U12B

The U12B cricket team kicked off their season in style with a 20-run victory over Dunottar. For some of the boys, this was their very first experience of hard ball cricket, and they rose to the occasion impressively.

Charlie N was the standout performer, starring with both bat and ball to help secure the win. Well done boys, on to next week!

U12A Girls v KGS

In a tense thriller, the Claremont U12A Girls bowled out KGS to secure an exciting 15-run victory. A tricky start saw Claremont fall to 25-4, but a significant partnership between Grace and Alyssa added 75 runs to propel the visitors to 111-6 from their 20 overs.

After initial struggles in the field, the Claremont bowlers found a better rhythm, with two wickets apiece for Alyssa, Grace, Olivia P and Pippa H, with Genevieve and Julia adding one each to reduce KGS to 96 all out after just 15.1 overs. Both teams conceded heavily to the opposition totals through extras, but Claremont should be thrilled with their ability to take wickets consistently and from so many different bowlers. Well done girls, that was really fun.

U12A Girls v Dunottar

First game – and what a test. Dunottar brought two high quality girls one of which we would not be surprised if she plays at the very highest level in years to come. Dunottar batted first and they posted a score of 150 in twenty overs. A substantial score for any team to chase and very much down to their two ‘stars’. However, our girls bowled with purpose and no little pace. The rest of the Dunottar batters found scoring hard, and the girls should be proud of their efforts in the field.

When it came to batting, all the girls were able to get some experience in chasing such a total. It was an excellent effort with everyone contributing, but with Gen H showing she could strike a ball with power and consistency. She may have made the highest score but she was able supported by Gigi, Grace and Issy. For a first game, this was an excellent effort against a strong opposition, who, if there two stars were taken away, this was a very close game. Now on to KGS and the Surrey Cup which could be a very close contest. Player of the Game – Genevieve H.

U12B Girls

The U12B girls played Dunottar and with some outstanding bowling held them to 242. The girls batted really well scoring a massive 345. Player of the game was Julia S hitting 3 consecutive unbelievable fours.

Rugby

Congratulations to Purdy M and her team, who are the Surrey WFC winners of 2025! A fantastic achievement for their coaches and players and club. It was a nail-biting game with some great support from Claremont and Reeds, with over 300 people watching, with support for Purdy not only from the school but also from the club as she been playing with the boys since she was five, until she went over to the girls’ team at age eleven.

Reeds Rebels U14s played Old Reigatians in the final of the Harlequins Cup on the Quins first team pitch. The Rebels cluster with both Weybridge Vandals and London Irish – a partnership that continues to pay dividends. In total, a squad of 34 girls were involved in the warm up with a playing squad of 22 (approximately 75% of which are from Reeds). The match attracted a huge amount of support with the majority from Reeds and they were all in for a treat. The noise was deafening and, after a few minutes, one of the Quins stewards said “this is noisier than a first team game!” Claremont was blown away by the performance of both squads, the game was frantic throughout and with seconds to go, the score was tied 12 points each. Arguably, no side deserved to lose but the Rebels were facing defeat as Surrey rules state that if it ended in a draw Reigatians would win as they scored the first try. After several minutes of pressure, the referee awarded Reeds a penalty in front of the posts and, exactly like the U22s, there was no time left on the clock. One of the Rebels girls coolly slotted the penalty to win the cup and all of the non playing girls ran onto the field to celebrate with the players on the pitch.

Tennis

Senior Boys Surrey League

This week marked both the beginning and the end of the tennis league season for our senior boys at Claremont, as we hosted Reed’s and RGS Guildford for our final fixtures of the term. It was a lovely afternoon for tennis, with all teams showing great sportsmanship and high-quality play throughout.

Despite our best efforts, Claremont faced tough competition and narrowly lost both matches 3-1. Nevertheless, the commitment, effort, and enthusiasm shown by our players were truly commendable. A huge well done and thank you to our senior boys – Ben SP, Leo S, Oliver R, Nicky O, Zac H, and Oscar C – for representing Claremont with pride across many matches this season. Your dedication to tennis has been fantastic, and we’re proud of your achievements.

Surrey Tennis – Year 7 Girls

It was a challenging afternoon for the Year 7 girls in their latest Surrey Tennis fixtures. Facing strong teams from KGS and Amesbury, the girls gave it their all but unfortunately came up short, with a 3–1 loss to Amesbury and a 4–0 loss to KGS. Despite the results, there were some excellent rallies and impressive individual moments on court. A big well done to Genevieve H, Diana M, Rianna R, and Rebecca H for their effort, resilience, and positive attitude throughout the matches. We are proud of the way they represented Claremont!

U14 Boys Surrey League

Our U14 boys took part in a thrilling Quadrangle fixture hosted by St George’s School, competing against Reed’s, St George’s, and RGS. It was a fantastic afternoon of tennis, filled with incredibly close matches and long, hard-fought rallies. The standard of play was exceptional, and it was a real treat to watch the boys give their all on court.

We got off to a strong start with a 3-1 victory over RGS. In our next match, we faced the hosts, St George’s, and despite some intense games, we narrowly lost 3-1. Our final tie was against Reed’s, who remained unbeaten throughout the afternoon.

A huge well done to Ben C, Charlie S, Harry S, and Leo B for their determination, skill, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the event. It was a lovely afternoon of tennis and a great experience for all involved.

Surrey Festival – U12 & U14 Girls

It was a lovely day for tennis as our U12 and U14 girls took part in the Surrey Festival on May 1st. The tournament followed a fast-paced “Fast 4” format, with players needing to win their group stages to progress.

It proved to be a challenging day of competition, but our girls showed great effort, resilience, and team spirit throughout. Every match was a valuable learning experience, and the girls represented the school with pride.

A big well done to Jessica L, Alice B, Genevieve, and Ane for their hard work and commitment on the court!

Diving

Many congratulations to Lucia C, who qualified for the National Age Group Diving Championship at Southend last week. The Championship takes place in June!
